Will you miss Valerie Harper on 'Dancing with the Stars'?

Monday night everyone’s favorite “Dancing With the Stars” cast member Valerie Harper was eliminated after some missed steps in her Viennese waltz.

Harper, 74, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year and has since exceeded all health expectations, told ABC News Radio that she didn’t regret her run on the show at all.

“I’m not sad. I’m happy to have been here for four weeks,” she said after the show. “I mean, that was great. And I think there’s fairness to it. If the show’s about good dancing and achieving ballroom styles, I wasn’t there yet.”

The former “Mary Tyler Moore” and “Rhoda” star was given three to six months left to live in January, but recent scans indicate the cancer has retreated for now.

    Not really.
I love Valerie and so sorry about her cancer, but she doesnt belong on DWTS. She could never have danced as good as the rest and all she gotwas pity votes. I feel bad for her but she isnt any different that Bristol Palin. Bristol knocked out dancers alot better than she was because of her moms popularity and that is unfair.

Sorry for her cancer. No one should have to go through that, but I didn't like her on MTM, so why would I on DWS?

Yes, but it was time for her to go. She is a sweet lady but she could not remember the steps and if I were in her place I would be the same. There comes a time when you know it's time for you to step away.

This is a show that is judged by the people for the best performance. Missing steps is not tolerated in the judging this is the reason for the show it is called DWTS because they are just that stars no points given for name or how much we like them personally

I like the show and I love Valerie but the DWTS staff was being too selfish & inconsiderate to put her on the show. They know that the practices/ rehearsals are rigorous & demanding so why in heavens' sake would they put on a sick woman? ...and I am baffled - why did she even agree to participate in the show?
It was not fair to her nor to Tristan MacManus.
Totally unfair to Tristan.....it blew his chance of being even in the top 3!
Though, I am sure he enjoyed having her as his partner, especially out of enormous respect & ultimate compassion for her
There are contestants with fit, athletic, strong & healthy bodies so how can this woman keep up or compete with such abled bodies?
Shame on DWTS......they are all about ratings!
They owe Tristan a huge apology for their stupid decision of pairing him with a physically weak partner..
Regardless, best wishes to her......I hope she gets much needed rest

All I thought about while watching her dance (the one time I watched it so far this season) is that she said she has inoperable brain cancer and only weeks to live, and then goes on Dancing With The Stars. --That's just weird.

Who the f#%% watches "dancing with the stars?" And what is wrong with you? I'd rather watch grass grow. Really or paint dry. How is that in any way entertaining you? It's like "Baby Einstein" for grown-ups.
  • johnroy SW 2013/10/10 02:31:01
That's your opinion but that's what makes the world go round. Everyone's tastes are different and I am so glad! I happen to like dancing, not all of it but ballroom dancing in particular. So Pfffttttsss to you.
  • SW johnroy 2013/10/10 19:26:11 (edited)
Haha fair enough! Heaven knows I'm entertained by some pretty vacuous stuff sometimes. It's no more silly than obsessing over baseball or college basketball or something. I just can't imagine getting into that. --maybe if I were into dancing.

Strangely though, I love Project Runway. Maybe it's because they're making something. I'm no one to judge... But I won't let that stop me! ;)

I don't think she'll miss it either. At 74, that kind of dancing hurts.

She was very inspiring... but I could tell last week she wasn't up to the task... but I applaud her taking it on in spite of all that's going in her life.... I thought she might be quitting the show anyway... It's pretty rigorous to work out like that daily... But God Bless you Valerie... I'm a fan!

  • '90skid 2013/10/09 03:00:49
Yes. She was really the only reason I decided to watch this season, besides Bill Engvall and Bill Nye. Out of those three, Valerie was my favorite. She's truly an inspiration to everyone, regardless of age. She went out there to prove that she wasn't going to let cancer slow her down. She's defeated the odds. Her doctors only gave her three months to live in March. We're now in October, and she's still alive, well and kicking. Her cancer is in remission. I wish her the very best and hope she makes it to 100! God bless you, Ms. Harper! :D <3

We'll miss Valerie Harper, period. I realize that with terminal cancer, that
twilight is upon her, and soon we must let her go to that great set up in the
sky. However, it won't be easy for any of us to do.

But yet no one knows about these things, she could wind up with a few more years.
  • nicesteve Jedi Ma... 2013/10/09 22:37:15
That'll be good, provided that she's not suffering through those few more years.
In other words, that they're a few more fun and good years for her.
