The National Basketball Association may cancel the entire first month of the 2011-2012 season, according to The New York Daily News. NBA commissioner David Stern is essentially tacking on two more weeks of postponement to the previous two weeks of basketball games he recently canceled. In other words, the prospects do not look good for the NBA this season.
Stern and NBA owners are hopeful they can salvage the season in time for Christmas Day's games. The NBA Players Association leader is not as optimistic. Transcribed by the NY Daily News: "I will call them to see if they want to get back together," NBAPA leader Billy Hunter said on Bill Simmons' ESPN podcast Monday.
"But if they still say they'll only meet if I accept their 50-50 (proposal), to me that's a non-starter. I can't agree to meet if I don’t know what is going to happen on the other issues. That is intolerable."
With the NFL, NHL, UFC, Golf, NASCAR, Boxing, WWE, among other sports and entertainment, basketball fans that find themselves NBA-less may try to fill that void. Some fans will be back as soon as the NBA ends the lockout -- no matter how long that may be. Unfortunately for the league, if the season is not salvage, there is no guarantee some of those fans will ever be back.

NHL Rumors: Will Seattle Be the New Home of the Phoenix Coyotes?
......... it only says Month, rather than Season or League !
Anyways, I admire Basketball but I don't care much about watching it. Can't get into it. Maybe I can see 5 minutes (okay, cool ya) or some highlights (great dunk, nice pass) but thats it.
Yep, NHL players went on strike and I think were in a big surprise when fans actually didn't care that much.
NBA might need to look at the collective disinterest the NHL got.
