Toyota Motor Corp. announced two safety recalls for its flagship Prius hybrid. The automaker said the steering intermediate extension shafts in 670,000 Prius cars sold in the U.S. need to be inspected and in some cases replaced. And 350,000 of those hybrids also will have to have their electric water pumps replaced. Toyota will recall another 2 million vehicles worldwide, including the Prius and the Corolla, to fix the same problems.

Then again I might just get a second 2002 Hyundai Elantra and do up my current car.
We have two Toyotas and they never need serviced outside of regular maintenance items.
There are some domestic cars that are mostly imported, and some foreign cars that are mostly US-made. If you buy a GM or Chrysler, you might end up with a relabeled Opel or Fiat. Or you can buy a Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, or BMW and end up with a US-made car.
No matter what kind of car you buy, the parts will be made all over the world.
It's a 2002 w/ 75K on it.
On the other hand if people were going to be a accident because of a fault on the car how much would it cost Toyota in litigation, so have they called the cars in because they are worried about us or worried about them.
Ford makes most of it's cars in Mexico and Canada.
GM is importing parts from China and assembling them here and in Mexico.
My Toyota Tacoma may be a Japanese owned company, but at least it was built here.
My little toy.
They have PDF files that show the last 6 months of recalls broken down by month, below is one taken directly from there:
"Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2010, Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks, manufactured from July 1, 2009, through November 30, 2009, because a rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to a lack of adhesive.
If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning. Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during November 2012. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is M34."
