"The Wizard of Oz," a 1939 musical film based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," was a box office failure when it came out. But it was still nominated for six Oscars, won two of them, and went on to be regarded as one of the best movies of all time. Historian John Fricke owes a large part of the movie's legendary status to television, asserting that annual telecasts made it something of a tradition in America. Now E! wants to bring the magic back to the small screen with a scripted drama called "Dorothy."
Here's how the network describes it: "Inspired by the book 'Dorothy and The Wizard of Oz,' a girl from Kansas City falls for a man and moves with him to the Emerald City to work at his Emerald Hotel. From writer Natalie Krinsky ('Gossip Girl,' 'Grey's Anatomy') and Warner Horizon Television." We assume they intended to reference the 1908 L. Frank Baum book, "Dorothy and The Wizard in Oz," the fourth book in the series. In any case, do you think Baum's "Wizard of Oz" classic will make a good television show?

The crap that Hollywood churns out these days under the guise of "family entertainment" comes straight out of a very foul sewer pipe.
Example ABC's Good Christian Bitches. ABC, is owned by Disney. Remember that the next time you are planning a vacation.
If they were to do it, they should stick close to the source material.
Oh, boy, these things really ARE written by a low-IQ teeny bopper.
That reminds me. CBS used to air THE WIZARD OF OZ every year in the month of March from 1956 until the mid 1990s. Now the network doesn't air it anymore. It's no longer an annual telecast. The WIZARD OF OZ is now on other cable networks but on many times of the year and at hours when peole are asleep. It's an American tradition that's now gone, as are many traditions in this country. How did it happen and why.
I think that the tradition of showing particular films at particular times of the year went into decline when VHS tapes & DVD's became popular. People probably stopped watching because they can now watch it anytime they want, without commercials.
I recently started my own tradition of re-watching all the Christmas specials that i used to watch as a kid
Again, I could be wrong.
When I look at the cover photo for "Tin Man," I can't help but see the germ of an idea for Zooey Deschanel's current Fox show "New Girl." Too funny!!
