Will the Lakers regret hiring Mike D'Antoni?

When Jim Buss and Lakers management fired Mike Brown as coach, they should have had a deal already in place with Phil Jackson. The current roster is too old for D'Antoni's up-tempo game.

Mike is a coach who wins and the players will respect him, a good choice:).

The best bet was to go with Phil. We all already know this. But to even fire Mike Brown only 5 games into the season? What the hell kind of message does that send to the rest of the staff? Or the roster for that mater? Personally I think they started their mistake by getting D12. D12 loves to PLAY basketball. Kobe loves to WIN basketball. Howard doesn't exactly have the same kind of 'Finals or bust' attitude that the rest of the team tends to have. But seeing as they now have gone with D'Antoni, they need to kiss Mike Brown's ass and bring him back. Brown's deal is defense. D'Antoni's deal is offense. With Mike D'Antoni as the new head coach, the Lakers need Mike Brown as their defensive cordinator.

I think Jerry Sloan would've been a better choice, but D'Antonio should do fine as long as he can get Gasol and an aging Bryant to run with Nash.

They had Phil and want to experience something new. Plus it's obviously what the players wanted too. I know Phil Jackson is probably the best coach in nba history but learning the triangle offense is more difficult to do that learning D'Antoni's system. Makes sense to me. Plus in Phil's last year with the lakers, they got swept and embarrassed by the Dallas mavericks in the playoffs. So having Phil is no guarantee that they will win a title. If Erik Spolestra can win one, anybody can.

I ain't no seer, so Mike D' Antoni's performance remains to be seen. Although, I must
confess that I would've been very pleased to see Phil Jackson back at the helm of the
    LA Lakers.

The Princeton offense sucks! This was the final straw for Mike Brown. An up-tempo game? Every coach worth his weight in salt taylors his offense to his personnel, and in the case of the Lakers, that would entail working the ball around for the open shot at a slow down pace. As a Celtics fan, I HATE the Lakers, but as an objective basketball fan, I say give D'Antoni a chance and see what happens. If Howard can play at his best and if Nash can rack up a bunch of assists (he certainly has options on this team), then the Lakers would be the favorites to win it all.

Every coach ends up being a let down in one way or another. it would be shocking if they didn't regret their decision. But then again maybe he can turn the team around. It would be nice to see the lakers step up their game and give the heat a run for their money.

As much as I dislike Phil Jackson I think he's the only one who can handle the ginormous egos on the team. I'm afraid Mike D'Antoni will have the same problems Mike Brown had.
