Will 'The Avengers' Video Game Live Up to the Movie?

"The Avengers" smashed box office expectations with the biggest opening weekend box office sales on record, knocking "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" and "The Dark Knight" out of the park. Obviously, Marvel has to turn it into a video game. We'll be the first to admit, video game adaptations of movies are usually a little bit lackluster. We'd like to say this will be an exception, but we're not convinced.

"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" is being developed by Ubisoft, the company responsible for "Assassin's Creed" -- a very impressive and successful series. But this game is being made for the Xbox 360's motion-controlled Kinect system and the yet-unreleased Wii U console, and after that "Kinect Star Wars" game, we're skeptical to say the least. Ubisoft sales VP Tony Key says motion control is perfect because "these characters are very action oriented," but what do you think?

Well the games barely relate to the movies I think and by time it comes out it the fanfare wil be long gone.

They seldom do, for the simple reason that the graphics and plotlines of games are seldom as good as those of movies.

If you stopped playing games in the late nineties they can't compare. The latest Mortal Kombat's storyline shattered the movie's storylines, acting, and it really brought the gore this time. You must not have played a Bethesda game either, it's worse than digital crack. I would venture to say that the opposite is true.

Most video games based on movies really are terrible. Batman: Arkham Asylum and City are the only two good ones that I know. They have gotten high ratings from all the gaming critics.

When I read from Game Informer they have made the statement as such, I have also heard them say that on Attack of the Show or XPlay. Which always struck me funny because the aren't from a movie but the Joker character seems really close to Heath Ledger's Joker. ?? Actually, the only really good comic book game base on a movie I have played is Batman on Super Nintendo when it came out!!!

This is awesome. I watched a video about how the real problem with women in media isn't the revealing clothing, its that men are posed to show strength, angst, anger, power, coolness or whatever the character needs to show, while women are posed to show...their ass. Or breasts.

To push even more into a tangent, one interesting thing about the popularity of Female Shepard is that both her and Male Shepard use the same movements for animation. And the reaction amongst audiences was positive.

Sadly history is indicating the opposite. the game will be utter crap with poor controls, a phoned in story and broken multiplayer, if it bothers with multiplayer at all.
