Will 'The Avengers' Video Game Live Up to the Movie?

"The Avengers" smashed box office expectations with the biggest opening weekend box office sales on record, knocking "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" and "The Dark Knight" out of the park. Obviously, Marvel has to turn it into a video game. We'll be the first to admit, video game adaptations of movies are usually a little bit lackluster. We'd like to say this will be an exception, but we're not convinced.

"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" is being developed by Ubisoft, the company responsible for "Assassin's Creed" -- a very impressive and successful series. But this game is being made for the Xbox 360's motion-controlled Kinect system and the yet-unreleased Wii U console, and after that "Kinect Star Wars" game, we're skeptical to say the least. Ubisoft sales VP Tony Key says motion control is perfect because "these characters are very action oriented," but what do you think?

Only thing worst than an adaption is a movie-to-video game.

But it'll still kick ass to play one of the best super heroes in the comic book world.

Ubisoft is made up of several teams, so that doesn't mean it'll be the same people responsible for Assassin's Creed (or for Rayman Origins for that matter). Also, the fact that it's going to rely on Kinect is a pretty bad sign.

So far, my experience with comic related video games is that they take all the excitement that is in a comic book (which was adapted to the Avengers movie quite well) and just throw it out the window. It has to have great game mechanics AND tell a good story at the very least, and then must live up to fluid, artistic, portrayal of characters that a comic renders without jading the fan base. It's nigh impossible!

I'll only give you that in part.....it is one of the finest video game adaptations of comics that has ever been made, but it still falls short in my book compared to the justice done by the avengers movie (which has never happened on the big screen for me thus far).

I'm a bit confused and need clarification. Are you saying that the Avenger's movie needed something else and wasn't as great as everyone makes it out to be. Personally, I was hoping that Hawkeye would be killed...not sure why, but he gravely aggravated me.

Oh, no.....I would always like to see a movie done "men my way", but the Avengers movie was better than anything else I've seen so far, and it captured my comic book heart by a landslide over others that are out there. I especially geeked out at the end during the preview of things to come. X-Men Legends was really great also, but in comparing apples to oranges, it wasn't as good as a VG as Avengers was as a Movie.

If a movie can't live up to the book then a game can't live up to the movie.

Not unless it can capture the quick wittiness of Iron Man, the awesomeness of Hawkeye, the epicness of Thor, the mightiness of Cpt. America, and the Massiveness of Th Hulk... I doubt it. http://qph.cf.quoracdn.net/ma...

i fond movie based games to be among the worst. just because the movies rock don't mean anything for the games. the games for transformers were horrible, ironman sucked, thor wasn't that fun, green lantern was pathetic, etc.

First of all, this isn't a movie adaptation into a video game, the info in this article is wrong.

But really, I'm not paying $150 to buy something, thn the $70 for the game. Especially when these motion games suck ass anyway.

Bad move Marvel Entertainment.. bad move.

It'll be another highly disappointing, quickly forgotten $60 intellectual property you can beat in a day of serious playing. 2 words, Green Lantern. 1 word, Thor.

Videogame adaptations of movies are traditionally bad. The games don't have the same amount of development time as other games that are semi-decent simply because they need to coincide with the movie release/development.

And vica-versa. Remember Mortal Kombat? The movie sucked so hard I still can't watch it all in one sitting. I'd rather nit a quilt than watch that. Absolutely lackluster. I hear Konami has finally got all the pieces together to get a Castlevania movie going. I do not think I can hold my breath hard or well enough for that one to turn out well. Oh, and I love that last series till I die.

Well I haven't seen the movie yet, which is apparently really good, so atleast I can look forward to that...but I yes I learned a long time ago not to bother with these hastily made video games D; I'll just wait for the next action adventure to come out, I mean, unless it's Call of Duty. Just for zombies though. I love zombies :> 60$ map pack ftw...

I don't multiplayer, it bores me insanely quickly. I like highly time consuming epic 1 player campaigns like Sacred2, and I also like the Fallout series. I feel like multiplayer is a cop-out for developers to sell you less game, and somehow make you like it. Think about it, $60 game, 6 hour campaign..... lame.

Like all movie-based games, it will be forgotten by everyone after being out for a few days. The game will have been rushed and horribly thrown together in order to release within time to hook onto the movie's hype. It will suck. They always suck.
Only a couple exceptions exist to my knowledge, and they are Spiderman 2 and Toy Story 3. In both cases, the games were actually slightly better than the movies!

I hope so. Ubisoft is pretty good at developing fun and interesting games. Wait! ...I just finished reading the 2nd paragraph. It's going to be for Kinect and motion control? Oh crap, this is going to blow! I change my vote.
