Will 'The Avengers' Video Game Live Up to the Movie?

"The Avengers" smashed box office expectations with the biggest opening weekend box office sales on record, knocking "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" and "The Dark Knight" out of the park. Obviously, Marvel has to turn it into a video game. We'll be the first to admit, video game adaptations of movies are usually a little bit lackluster. We'd like to say this will be an exception, but we're not convinced.

"Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth" is being developed by Ubisoft, the company responsible for "Assassin's Creed" -- a very impressive and successful series. But this game is being made for the Xbox 360's motion-controlled Kinect system and the yet-unreleased Wii U console, and after that "Kinect Star Wars" game, we're skeptical to say the least. Ubisoft sales VP Tony Key says motion control is perfect because "these characters are very action oriented," but what do you think?

MOST movie games are given little to no thought in terms of storyline, graphics, gameplay, or any other attributes critical to developing a quality video games.
They are simply rushed out in order to ride the cash wave created by the movie.

Fact: Video-game versions of movies suck 999 time out of 1000.

Great movie! I'm proud to be a Marvel fan since the pre-spiderman days. This Avengers movie must be totally satisfying to Stan Lee. His vision was brought to the screen in a way that could not have been possible before now. I thought the Hulk's personality was spot on.

There is already an Avengers game on Facebook... how's that working out for them? I am not sure as I don't play it, but games after movies usually fail. I do predict this will be the Avengers year for Halloween costumes though! lol

Yea... no way. The graphics will be terrible, the story will be half baked, and unless they got the real actors to do the voices, the acting will suck. Then you add in the Kinect part (which will make it terrible in itself). Looks like a winning combination to me. Ha!

Honestly, part of the greatness of Avengers was the acting and the way the characters were believable. In the video game, that obviously will disappear. And my dear Loki wouldn't get a lot of face time.

Ubisoft? WiiU? Kinect? All of these things point to a huge disappointment focused on quick cash in. All those things can have great games, but the incentives for pusing out shovelwear is just too high for such a hot IP. Besides, even if they did try particularly hard, Translations are hard between mediums, and a well done video game could still be outshined by a absolutely fantastic movie. Get Joss Whedon to write for the game, then I might be a little less skeptical.

Do licensed games EVER live up to the movie? Especially when they are released within the window of said movie's release.

Games should never be converted into movies. Ever. =/ Vice versa would be fine, even awesome (what comes to mind is a Who Framed Roger Rabbit video game...).
