When Katrina (Cat 5) hit, there was huge differences in how the local and state governments (primary responsibility) reacted; Mississippi came together to sort through the worst effects of the storm, while Mayor Nagan (New Orleans) and Governor Blanco ignored their lack of preparation and squandered resources, while demanding the Federal Government come fix everything.

The North East experienced Sandy (Cat 1) and also saw mixed reactions from their local and state governments (good thing NYC saw a 'near-miss' versus a direct hit, huh?). In both hurricanes, the breakdown of society also varied by neighborhood/situation, but that's another discussion entirely.

There is a bit of confusion as to the Federal government's role in this type of disaster; Bush was criticized by the media for not making up the shortfalls of the Louisiana government fast enough for their liking, Obama doesn’t have any critical thinking of his decisions applied by the media, instead they protect him.

Where is the personal responsibility versus the reliance on the government to do everything?

So what was it that Obama failed at? And maybe most important, why has "the media" reacted so graciously to Obama and so poorly to Bush?
And is it possible that in comparison to Romney's words about his plan for FEMA and how he spoke before he knew how FEMA worked.
And does a positive review by Christie help or hinder the appearance of the work done by Obama.
I mean, how can one state with cities underwater have such positive things today and according to people on Sodahead, other states react so poorly. You would think, if politics were at play, that New York would be the ones saying what a great job he did.

There are entire neighborhoods that NO ONE has even been into yet, and it is a week already.

Obama saud bush hated blacks and that was why he didn't respond swiftly, but the fact was the DEM governor refused federal aid UNTIL the press started showing what conditions were like THEN she wanted to jump on the blame bush bandwagon.

Obamas Sandy respnse has been slower, and many, folks are without anything a nd have yet to see help in any form. So, we can surmise that obama hates the norhteast, until he needs a vote,.

During that speech, he intimated that Bush didnt care about the people of New Orleans. (by the way, those people down there feel as though they were no longer welcome there because after the levys are properly fixed, they are going to build homes for the wealthy)
But he NEVER said Bush hates black people.

Maybe not black people in general. Just the tired poor and hungry people in this country.
You know, the family around the corner from you that lost their income because Bush was so worried about Iraq. The old lady down the street who had to worry about her meals because food prices skyrocketed while Bush was pretending to chase Bin Laden.
Its not so much he hates ANYONE as much as he didnt care about so many.

Again, this was a conclusion drawn by those who either felt guilty in some way and this touched a nerve. Or by someone desperate enough to make the inference. Someone gasping their last breath.
AND the difference between what O said and what WILLARD said is that Obama said it for all to hear.
He more or less publicly challenged those that oppose him to speak on it. He was willing to go there and McCain's camp wasnt. And apparently neither was Willard's.

HE inferred what a lot of us think. He talked about black neighborhoods and investing in black business. he talked about the apparent to a lot of folks inequality in job contracts.
He may have embellished a little as im sure you know every politician does. But he wasnt inciting a riot. He didnt day kill whitey. He just simply talked to black folks like black folks talk.

As a victim of this storm, I can tell you that a photo does nothing...NOTHING to fix the problem.

Unfortunately, although he did nothing to help. Turned out to be a great photo op for him just at the most opportune time.

What was his response? Walking around with Gov Christie and getting photo ops. Look at the condition of NYC and the lack of response from FEMA and other federal agencies. This is Katrina for the Northeast. Obama and Bloomberg should both be ashamed. I live in NJ and work out of NYC when I have been able to get there and this is a mess.

7 full days into this mess and a LOT of neighborhoods still have not gotten any relief, or even a visit from FEMA.

FEMA's slow response is just one reason.

Obama compared his visit to NJ to Bush's to Katrina.

Those people, my neighbors were there for answers...they got a hug and a picture instead and then went back to their destruction while Obama continued his campaign.
I sat here for 6 days living in colonial style and Benghazi got me angry enough to keep on. ...weird how some things give ya an adrenaline boost, huh?

it is so disgusting.. I am on the West Coast (inland tho) but cannot imagine the horror people are living thru.. and now with another storm coming on Wednesday.. what the hell are they thinking.. get people into shelters and clothing and food at least.. and electricity.. this is winter.. How could he go campaigning at a time like this?? he said he would cut red tape and would supervise to make sure everything was happening in a proper and timely manner .. just another lie of Obamas.. I doubt he ever tells the truth.
