By the time you probably read this, the Indianapolis Colts will have released the greatest player in franchise history and a man that will surely be a first ballot Hall of Famer: quarterback Peyton Manning. After 14 years as a Colt, for the first time in his professional football career, Manning will have to find a new home -- and he'll surely have plenty of teams approaching him for his services.
Manning was owed a $28 million bonus this month, but with uncertainty about his neck injury that put him out of action all last season and the Colts being the owners of the No. 1 NFL Draft pick, it didn't make financial sense to the franchise to keep him on the roster. Without Manning in 2011, the Colts just went 2-14, although it can be argued the head coach, general manager, and poor defense were really to blame for the team's lack of success.

Colts owner Jim Irsay has since fired head coach Jim Caldwell, vice chairman Bill Polian, among others. You can bet the Colts will be looking for a fresh start in 2012, but it may be a while before the team remotely has the amount of success seen with Manning under center. As for Manning himself, he'll have to prove to teams that he's healthy enough to still play -- and play at a high level. Manning has been durable all his career, but can he bounce back from this near-career ending medical medical setback?
