Will Katy Perry's Very Own Record Label Be a Success?

Justin Bieber showed off his promotional chops this year by tweeting about Carly Rae Jepsen, who is now sitting comfortably at the top of the charts. But Katy Perry fancies herself a star-maker, too. The 27-year-old pop star is launching her own record label soon, and plans to treat her artists better than most. She's all too aware of the financial pitfalls major labels present for budding artists.

Perry told The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm preparing for it now. And when this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'" Sounds like a pretty sweet business model -- if it works. Do you think Katy Perry's record label will be a success?

Even if you hate her she will still be successful for awhile most likely. I dislike her music but she has a huge fan base and she hasn't done anything wacky unlike Nicki Minaj who killed her career the moment she released stupid hoe. She will probably be forgotten one day but not now.

True. Anyone who says someone is a nobody is just hating. And Katy is definitely not a nobody. She's talented and gorgeous and a great person.

Any record label started by a celebrity seems like it. Plus she's really pushing that thing how **anyone can make it if they work hard, no matter how "weird." I'm a musician, and honestly, I'd record there if it was either the right genre company or any can.

First of all, having the right team working with the label, people who she can really trust who are dedicated and feel like family like this Business is their baby too and nothing bad should happen to it, and second getting artists with very good clear vocals, tone qualities, style, uniqueness and song writing skills, She would have to set up some kind of katy-Perry boot camp to amp up their determination and motivate them to be on top like she has. Katy is a great artist so that should be a legacy that's practiced by many upcoming artists on her label in order for it to be a success. Hope everything works out well.

Down in flames, it takes a tremendous about of work, talent and luck to get a label to work. While KT may have achieved success herself, just adding a name to a label does not make it succeed. What is the saying too many irons in the fire? I wish artists would stop trying to do everything, music, business labels, government advising, hopping Air Force One to "hitch a ride".... just do what your good at and leave the rest to others. Just because you have become famous in one area does NOT mean you have all the answers to all other questions.

I am hoping she is successful, but you have a very valid point. It does take a lot of effort, hard work, and talent. And I name while it may carry some influence will not carry it to the highest of heights. But I have faith because I believe she is a hard worker who does put an extreme amount of effort into her work, and she is extremely talented. So before we put her down and commit her to failure, maybe try to be more support her and your fellow humans beings for that matter. We shouldn't try to tear people down, but rather help build each other up.

I never consider prostitution of ones self success! That's what she does and in my opinion, no amount of money will make her a success!

Prostitution, really? Hmm, sadly, "prostitution" of an artist, is the one that sells CD's. So, yeah, she's whoring herself, just like every other artist would. "If you don't show off, you don't sell."

Selling your body does not sell your albums. Amy Grant who Katy Perry happened to idolize, never exposed herself the way Katy does and she was a very successful artist during her time. As I do love Katy and think she has a great talent, I do not agree with your statement. Although I think Andrew is completely wrong even more so.

Don't like her music but her label I can see being a success. Any other pop star out there, maybe not. But I imagine Katy signing cute teen girls to sing pop-ish love songs or something, haha. But I think it'll do well.

If she knows what she is doing, then it will.

But she can't juggle being a businesswoman with being Katy Perry.

This isn't going to work. Leading the top-of-the-charts popstar life just doesn't allow a project like this to exist. What I see happening is just her sticking her name on this label or funding it. Actually managing it? No.

Some of the best companies treat their employers very well giving lots of benefits and rewarding good work. Sounds like her model would at least be similar and that is a step in the right direction.

I'm sure she knows enough people in the business to hire a couple of good producers and promoters. It's a good idea that she has a plan b, not every musician gets to be popular for the rest of their lives.
