Justin Bieber showed off his promotional chops this year by tweeting about Carly Rae Jepsen, who is now sitting comfortably at the top of the charts. But Katy Perry fancies herself a star-maker, too. The 27-year-old pop star is launching her own record label soon, and plans to treat her artists better than most. She's all too aware of the financial pitfalls major labels present for budding artists.

Perry told The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm preparing for it now. And when this record label does come to fruition, I'm going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I'm thinking, 'How would I want to be treated?'" Sounds like a pretty sweet business model -- if it works. Even if you hate her she will still be successful for awhile most likely. I dislike her music but she has a huge fan base and she hasn't done anything wacky unlike Nicki Minaj who killed her career the moment she released stupid hoe. She will probably be forgotten one day but not now.

As long as she sticks to that philosophy. Now for the downside, she has a lot of competition out there and they will try to undercut her at EVERY turn since she is actually trying to do right by the artists.

of course it will be, no matter how much it sucks in reality. Whether she continues to suck or not, hundreds if not millions of loyal fans will be banging down at her door for a chance to record a song under her name. As much as I hate her, and don't want this to succeed, it sadly will purely because she danced around in stupid outfits to obtain a retarded fanbase.

It's the best way to make your own way and stick it to the big labels. She'll make all the money on HER gig too! I like her style, but don't have a lot of exposure to her music. I wish her the best!

It depends... If she can make a new Up And Comer about as famous and succesful as she is herself now and she will actually ''treat her artists the best'' then I can see a glorious future for Ms. Perry as a record label boss. But first we have to face what kind of artists she would sign, how she is going to promote them etc. etc.

Maybe Katy Perry would have a little Russel Simmons in her and she can build a whole empire like Def Jam or Motown.. we'll see how thingz work out

Why does every "star" with more than 1 song or 6 months on the Billboard Top 100, think they need--much less deserve--their own record label? Are they afraid the one they're with might stop producing their stuff?

I voted yes to give her the benefit of the doubt. I have no idea what kind of business people she has surrounded herself with. I don't know what experience she has or if she's just winging it. I do know that the most unconventional people make the biggest success stories, so she has all the potential. Now let's see if she has the right role models and advisers to take her to the top (along with her new stars).

I am a Grandmother and I LOVE Katy Perry--- She comes from a Good Christian Family but Flaunts her human Sexuality in a Classy Way ...unlike some other star who are constantly having wardrobe malfunctions or taking their acts into the Blasphemous category! well, since I don't follow katy perry's life, I don't know,
I have heard her sing like twice, however, and it's not that great.
I do like her fashion style and I hope she has a good ear
for music and does well with the recording company.
