Best-selling author J.K. Rowling will forever be synonymous with Harry Potter. Rowling's most famous series of books and characters has made her a multi-millionaire, entrepreneur, and an inspiration to anyone that knows her rags to riches story. After seven Harry Potter books, eight movies, and countless merchandise, Rowling is ready to take the next step in her career.
That next step comes in the form of Rowling's upcoming adult novel titled "The Casual Vacancy." While Rowling had enormous success with Harry Potter in a number of demographics, this will be the first book she will be releasing for a specific age group. According to Rowling, it will be a completely different book from the Potter series, in a whole other world. No Muggles and Wizards in her newest read, kids.
Two million copies of "The Casual Vacancy" will be shipped to U.S. bookstores on September 27. It will also be simultaneously released digitally and in hardcover in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Even if Rowling's newest read is a well-written masterpiece, it may be nearly impossible to match the success of Potter. But that doesn't mean "The Casual Vacancy" won't be successful at all.

- Alexander T Steward 2012/09/22 20:45:58NoShe'll never get the same level of success she did with Harry Potter. Just like when St Peter wrote the Bible. Best selling book of all time and yet he never wrote a follow-up book.reply
- Christopher Kirchen 2012/09/22 20:38:05YesBut does she really need to? She can live on what she's made from Harry Potter for the rest of her life, and ten generations more could as well. That being said, I support any future endeavors she may make and will at least check them out, reply

- dennisg40 2012/09/22 19:42:24NoI think every writer finds their niche when they are successful. For example Steven King has found that books about horror are what he does best. Readers do not want to read historical fiction novels about love or anything else written by him. He keeps trying to stretch beyond what made him rich and famous. Just as Clint Eastwood found that crime and westerns are what made him rich and famous but now he keeps wanting to do something else now.reply

I actually prefer King's sci-fi novels such as Dreamcatcher, Under the Doom, and The Stand to his horror novels.reply - StocktonJoe 2012/09/22 19:36:19 (edited)Yes+1Yes AND No. It all depends on HOW you define "success." Will her future books sell? Yes. Will her future books make money? Yes. Will her future books come anywhere NEAR the popularity of the Harry Potter books? No. I suspect that for J.K. Rowling - andfor children who grew up making the Harry Potter movies and the women and men who starred in them - "the best" is now behind them. I don't think any of them will ever again catch that "lightening in a bottle". Just as Sir Alec Guinness was best known as Obi-Wan Kenobe from Star Wars even though he had a long and distinguished career on stage and in film.reply

- SofiSlashes™~ 2012/09/22 19:25:45Yes+3i think yes AND no,because shes already made so many Harry Potter books, and movies. If it wasn't for her writing Harry Potter books, she wouldn't be as succesful now.If she does start something new,it must be way different from Harry Potter then.reply
