Best-selling author J.K. Rowling will forever be synonymous with Harry Potter. Rowling's most famous series of books and characters has made her a multi-millionaire, entrepreneur, and an inspiration to anyone that knows her rags to riches story. After seven Harry Potter books, eight movies, and countless merchandise, Rowling is ready to take the next step in her career.

That next step comes in the form of Rowling's upcoming adult novel titled "The Casual Vacancy." While Rowling had enormous success with Harry Potter in a number of demographics, this will be the first book she will be releasing for a specific age group. According to Rowling, it will be a completely different book from the Potter series, in a whole other world. No Muggles and Wizards in her newest read, kids.

Two million copies of "The Casual Vacancy" will be shipped to U.S. bookstores on September 27. It will also be simultaneously released digitally and in hardcover in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Even if Rowling's newest read is a well-written masterpiece, it may be nearly impossible to match the success of Potter. But that doesn't mean "The Casual Vacancy" won't be successful at all.

Considering her new book is already #7 on Amazon's bestselling list, and it hasn't even been released yet... I should think she'll find success!

I dont know, I know a lot of older adults who still like Harry Potter.

Of course! I'm just saying that it is, in fact, a children's book but everyone can read it :)

What's your idea o a favorite book, Twilight? She's an amazing author, her description is beautiful, her grammar is outstanding. Her creativity is beyond this world.

Might not be the Harry Potter Success ,but I think she will be successful still with her true fans. Like a Stephen King or John Grisham

Nothing will probably ever be as big but as long as those who remain are loyal to her, J.K. Rowling will always be successful.

Well, to be honest, her writing days should have ended years ago.

It's made her incredibly rich, for cryin' out loud. She'll figure something out. And her "rags to riches story" isn't quite the moving, inspirational tale they say it is.
  • timothy.hill.14 2012/09/24 08:30:06
After so much success why does she even need more? I think she'll keep writing because that's what writers do. I think her switch from potter to adult literature is rather an odd turn to take. It's like if Stephen King just started writing children's books or something.

I don't like Harry Potter, nor the series. But as long as her writing is well written, she will always find success. Many authors have been synonymous to one character or series and still made laid acclaim to other successful books. Examples are, Stephanie Meyer. Her Twilight series didn't hinder her success since she received praise for her book The Host. Anne Rice is the same. She will always be known for Lestat the vampire but her other works were equally as good.

If she wanted to, she could retire right now and she'd be successful for the rest of her life. Look at the millions she already has.

Most writers don't define "success" in financial terms, but rather when it comes to critical reception. I think the mistake most SodaHead users are making here is defining "success" in terms of money. "She's already rich, why does she need to write more?" etc etc...but for Rowling, it's never been about the money. She didn't expect to get rich off of Harry Potter and I doubt it matters to her whether she makes a dime in sales of her next novel. She just wants to keep writing for its own sake.

Anyone who can weave words into incredible story lines like those in the Harry Potter series can probably weave clouds into nests for flight weary birds to rest!
  • hilda 2012/09/24 01:37:26
I definitely think so. I can't wait to read her next one.

This is Rowling were talking about here. I'm purely confident that she'll be able to accumulate the tremendous amount of success for this book as anyone could tell. She's going to make a ton of money off this just as like how she did with her seven book Harry Potter series.

Have you ever tried reading between the lines? All you people who hate on us Potterheads say we need to grow up, but we aren't stuck in the fantasy. It the other messages that you read throughout.
