Best-selling author J.K. Rowling will forever be synonymous with Harry Potter. Rowling's most famous series of books and characters has made her a multi-millionaire, entrepreneur, and an inspiration to anyone that knows her rags to riches story. After seven Harry Potter books, eight movies, and countless merchandise, Rowling is ready to take the next step in her career.

That next step comes in the form of Rowling's upcoming adult novel titled "The Casual Vacancy." While Rowling had enormous success with Harry Potter in a number of demographics, this will be the first book she will be releasing for a specific age group. According to Rowling, it will be a completely different book from the Potter series, in a whole other world. No Muggles and Wizards in her newest read, kids.

Two million copies of "The Casual Vacancy" will be shipped to U.S. bookstores on September 27. It will also be simultaneously released digitally and in hardcover in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Even if Rowling's newest read is a well-written masterpiece, it may be nearly impossible to match the success of Potter. But that doesn't mean "The Casual Vacancy" won't be successful at all.

Considering her new book is already #7 on Amazon's bestselling list, and it hasn't even been released yet... I should think she'll find success!

Nothing will ever compare to Harry Potter, but as long as she's the one writing it, it'll damn well be the next hit.

Besides who cares, she's already a millionaire :P
  • dzzshadz 2012/09/25 18:55:34
    If she wants to sure.

Of course she can, she had the talent to write Harry Potter and she has that same talent to write whatever idea she comes up with next. Really looking forward to it.

Depends how motivated she is. Talent is talent. Personally, I'd be tempted to kick back and putter with less-commercial writing.

The hype will drive the book's success, but further successes will be governed by how good it is.
  • ParaTime♥ 2012/09/25 16:55:42
Of course, although Harry Potter was absolutely amazing, she will as she is that good of an Author. I do hope she writes more Harry Potter though it is unlikely.

Seriously harry potter could be better. I mean i would most definitely read a prequel about the fore founders of hogwarts. Hufflepuff and ravenclaw barely had any character development and it was always the grandiose griffyndor vs the evil slytherin. I mean she could write and entire book series on the adventures of snape or dumbledore but she doesnt

Probably not on a Harry Potter level, because that kind of thing is like lighting in a bottle, but she'll have success. But really, who cares? She's filthy rich now. Any further success is just gravy.
  • NancyR1 2012/09/25 15:08:44
and now she can just be creative and experiment with it.

Whether her new book is good or not (and I'm hoping it is), it will be successful. People will buy it because she's JK ROWLING.
And even if it fails, she'll still be a millionaire.
  • dranet 2012/09/25 14:56:25
    I'll definitely read it.

  • Dan 2012/09/25 14:38:42
She is a very good writer and she will do fine.
  • Playerazzi 2012/09/25 12:29:14
I'm sure she will, but only time will tell if this and other books will truly be "good".

Let's take another look in about six months or so.

I say Yes. JUST from the HUGE amount of fame she ALREADY has from writing those Harry Potter books will help thrust/boost her into the spotlight once her NEW book comes out. She will probably have EVERY Editor review her NEW book and probably be mentioned on the front page of EVERY news column and BookStore/Website.

P.S. Her NEW book might NOT (and I hope it does) make as MUCH money as her Harry Potter Books simply because her Harry Potter Books attracted EVERY audience and her NEW book is ONLY attracting/filling a certain audience/niche. I still think her NEW book will be EXTREMELY popular EVEN if it's NOT as popular as her Harry Potter Books, her NEW book will STILL be VERY successful.

    ENOUGH with the CAPITALS.
  • kalmanizer jimena 2012/09/27 06:21:52 (edited)
DON'T be a hypocrite! You used Capitals as well. ;-D

Seriously though, I type EXACTLY how I talk. I talk with a LOT of feeling and emotion in my words.

Sorry and I didn't mean to irritate you or ANYone. This is JUST how I type. :)
  • Katie 2012/09/25 05:21:48
Of course anything she writes now won't make near as much as Harry Potter, but I know she'll have tons of success with basically anything she does.

My college essay on Harry Potter got me a lot of scholarship money, so I am pretty grateful she wrote it!

Getting a scholarship because of Harry Potter is my dream.
  • Ann 2012/09/25 04:27:32
It will be hard to top that!
  • Kurt 2012/09/25 00:02:00
Honestly, who really cares. She is a multimillionaire.
  • jimena Kurt 2012/09/25 14:29:00
I'm sure she's not doing this to make more money...she's a serious writer!

Yes. Maybe not as big a hit as with her first series, but I don't see why she wouldn't. I mean, yeah, Harry Potter was nothing new to Fantasy fans, and I personally was not impressed with it, but it wasn't horrid by any means.

I suppose so, but I doubt that any upcoming releases will trump her series on Harry Potter.

She can if she puts her heart mind body and soul to writing something like that again.
  • kevracer 2012/09/24 20:21:29
I doubt that her new series will earn her a $1 billion like Harry Potter

Doesn't mean it won't be 'successful'. Sadly, though, now that she's an 'established' writer, her profit margin will be significantly lower.
  • wolfdncr 2012/09/24 20:12:21
But really does she have to she is richer then the Queen lol
  • jimena wolfdncr 2012/09/25 14:29:54
Of course she doesn't have to, but she's a serious writer-- she's not going to stop writing just because she's rich!
  • Bubba 2012/09/24 19:31:53
Although she will be known for the great series she is an amazing writer and an extremely intelligent person who will undoubtedly find success beyond that franchise.
  • YEAH 2012/09/24 19:18:18
Well, I'm not sure if she will but she shouldn't. She is not a good auther and Harry Potter, in my opinion, is very badly written. I do not understand her success and do not believe her work should've gotten so huge. She has enough money as it is.
  • Bubba YEAH 2012/09/24 19:32:53
Well how old are you? Because it really depends on your age whether not harry potter connects to your innermost self :P

So what you're saying is that Mrs. Rowling got lucky with her first series, due to targeting at the right age group?

Which is what I've been saying for years? Fair enough,
  • Bubba Christo... 2012/12/17 17:30:49
    She didn't "get lucky"....
  • Christo... Bubba 2013/01/29 20:52:24
    Christopher Brady
Yes she did. This new series she has out now isn't setting the world on fire.
  • Bubba Christo... 2013/02/16 21:22:48
    What new series.
Surely you aren't referring to her SINGLE NOVEL "A Casual Vacancy" which was the fastest-selling book in the United Kingdom in three years and became the 15th best-selling book of 2012 during its first week of release with generally positive reviews?
