Green Bay Packers has most of its 2010-2011 championship team returning for the 2011-2012 season. The Packers enter the season in the #1 ranked power postion.

Philidelphia Eagles gained some awesome talent in the off-season to compliment the MVP-hopeful QB Michael Vick. The Eagles still don't have key LBs to control the run and shortgame.

The Pittsburgh Steelers return a healthy team and QB Ben Rothesliberger starts game #1 off probation. Hines Ward stayed in shape by winning Dancing With The Stars.

The Indianapolis Colts will struggle with an injured roster.

Look out for the San Diego Chargers! Los Angeles' local (100 miles away) NFL team has the #1 QB Phillip Rivers with a healthy #1 TE Antonio Gates. The Bolts defense will shutdown the West.

That's impossible to say but it's very, very hard to repeat. You either have to have everything go your way or a vastly superior team than everybody else or both. Look at New England when they lost to the Giants. They were undefeated and the best team in football but a few breaks went against them and they lost the Super Bowl.

The Green Bay Packers looked great today against the New Orleans Saints... but repeating takes more than 1 win and allowing 34 points at home.

No they won't. I know that preseson doesn't really count for how they will play during the season, but their game with the Colts was not very good.

I think they're in the best position to do so.

Not only are they young and just hitting their prime, but they also get a ton of top level talent back from injury that they didn't have during their run last year. JerMichael Finley? Ryan Grant? Thats just a couple of names. But they're healthier than they were last year and just hitting the prime.

The Eagles made a lot of headline moves but there are still questions about hte O Line and other areas of the team. Plus, if Vick gets hurt which isn't an unreasonable thought, its all over. The track record for Vick and Andy Reid in the playoffs isn't Super Bowl tastic either.

The Pats are old, its turnover time for that former dynasty.

The Steelers are in a good position too. But they lost to an injury riddled Packer team last year. So I'm not giving them the edge yet against a healthy Pack.

There are other teams out there that could rise. The Chargers sure but they don't have a good track record with consistency - especially early in the season and in the playoffs. The Saints are always there. The Jets? Two AFC Title game appearances for those guys, maybe they break through. And I always like the Ravens.

But for now I'll give the Pack the edge until I see something that says different during the season.

Have always liked the Pack as a long suffering Redskin fan, but other possibilities like Philadelphia, New England, and New Orleans could knock them off.

In the playoffs last year, the Pack were truly a GREAT team. Historically, though, repeats in the NFL are very difficult to come by.
Also, the Pack are in a tough division with 'da Bears, the (improved) Lions, and the potentially improved Vikings. And the NFC North teams have to play the NFC Sounth, which is also going to be a challenge, starting with tonight's HUGE game. Get your popcorn ready!

I met him once a little over ten years ago. Very interesting guy. Not at all what I expected.

I am surprised the Vikes haven't settled the qb situation yet. With a rb like Peterson all they need is a competent qb to work off of. Did they draft anyone recently?

A lot of Vikings fans (me included) want them to go back to playing outdoors. Not likely to happen, of course, but the owners did ask the NFL for permission to have ONE outdoor game this season.

Really? The Packers win the Super Bowl with a largely injured roster and you have the finishing third as they return healthy and much stronger and experienced?

Pack first, possibly Lions second, Bears third, Vikes forth.

I thought all teams wanted to do if win the Super Bowl? I thought that sort of means everything.

The difference with the Pack and the other teams is that the Pack has the experience now and the achievement. They're still young, hitting the prime. Not like an aging team that finally got it done and is on the decline. And they succeeded with the strain of injuries to key players like Grant and Finley. Those guys plus others are back. They should be even better.

The Bears are good, but couldn't beat the Pack at home in the playoffs last year - not to mention a ton of questions there on offense. I see a definite slide coming.

The Lions have a ton of potential, but they're really raw. And can Stafford stay healthy. They could be explosive on offense with a dominating defensive line, but there are questions about the rest of the defense. And when it comes to January theres zero experience there.

While I'm not saying those two are bad, quite the contrary, I just don't think they've proven anything that warrants putting them ahead of a young, hungry, healthy Super Bowl winning team.

How often do teams repeat? Virtually never. There's a reason for that. Superbowl hangover. Being the defending superbowl champions means about as much as going undefeated through preseason. Which means it doesnt mean anything.
The Superbowl was last February. This is a whole new season. And the Lions and Bears know exactly what to expect out of Green Bay this year. They've spent the off season prepping for the Pack. GB won't repeat.

Well lets see. We've seen a repeat 8 times. That means out of 44 Super Bowls, 16 were back to backers. Thats 36 percent of Super Bowls. Thats actually not too bad a percentage.

    And the rate is fairly steady. 4 years between 1 and 2. 2 and 3 were back to back actually. 2 years between 3 and 4. 8 between 4 and 5. 2 between 5 and 6. 3 between 6 and 7. 4 between 7 and 8.

Currently we sit at 5 years between the last repeat and last years Super Bowl GB team.

Those numbers are really consistent actually. The longest we've ever gone between back to backers is 8 years.

Also 30 of 44 Super Bowl champions made the playoffs the season following their title. Thats 68 percent. Again, not a bad percentage.

So we've established historically that repeats happen over a quarter of the time and at somewhat regular intervals. Also, that being a successful championship team leads to almost a 70 percent chance that you'll be in the playoffs the following season.

So the numbers don't really lend credence to "being defending champs means about as much as going undefeated in preseason" and teams "virtually never repeat". Being champ means something.

I'm not even arguing with you particularly that the Pack will repeat. I voted on that option because I can see it happening the way things are lined up but I'm arguing with you though about placing a weaker Bears team and an unproven Lions team above a stronger defending Super Bowl champ in the division. Its silly talk.
