"Amnesia: The Dark Descent" is largely regarded as the scariest video game ever made. Even fans of the "Silent Hill" series were stunned when the experimental horror game was released in 2010. Compilation videos of people reacting to the game went viral. Now Frictional Games, the original developers, are turning the project over to a studio called thechineseroom, creators of ghost adventure game "Dear Esther," to create "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs."
Dan Pinchbeck, creative director at thechineseroom, told Gamasutra, "We want this game to be absolutely skin-crawlingly, heart-shatteringly, and nerve-jarringly terrifying -- that's the target. Everything is geared around that. Just turning people to complete ice and making them have complete meltdowns ... If we don't frighten people as much as the original, then we've failed. But now we have to frighten people that know what to expect." It's slated for Fall 2012.

Its all relative, back in its day the first RESi EVIL... I had to turn the lights on. It had nothing really to compare to. & I was told I traumatised a nephew by letting him play 'NIGHTMARE' dvd game.reply
- Wutnagkillabeeontheswarm 2012/03/31 18:26:11NoNo Cuz the first one is the scariest ever. Maybe part 2 is there to take the Title... Pacman is still the scariest game to me though :Preply

+2....which, having played the first Amnesia game, doesn't even compare. Silent Hill is for children in comparison.reply - Mud 2012/03/31 16:44:11NoFor me it was doom 3 on my big screen at night by myself in the dark. But, hey, hopefully it rocksreply
- Paranormal♥Spirit 2012/03/31 15:55:07NoNo. Silent Hill is scarier. Amnesia doesn't even scare me. Neither does Silent Hill but it does seem scarier than Amnesia.reply
- The Bee Guy 2012/03/31 14:55:09NoWhat all of these "games" are doing to the minds of the citizens of our country, is very scary indeed. Many of the ones playing get so deeply roped in, they have a difficult time discerning between reality, an virtual entertainment. Wonder what we would learn if we started to look closely at what entertainment (games) that the kids who go or have gone into places and shot them up, have been filling their minds with, and how many hours they have spend in these each week...reply

+2Anyone who really can't discern reality from video games, was gonna snap regardless. That's like saying, omg this guy ate a bag of Doritos and then shot 30 people! Doritos kill!reply - The Bee... Mud 2012/04/03 19:16:17
Yup, they might snap and go kill themselves instead of a whole room of people. It isn't the snap that is a problem, it is what the head is full of when the spring breaks...reply - Seras S... The Bee... 2012/04/01 18:11:16
+1That's why the parents need to teach they're child the differences between video games and reality and stop letting the TV babysit their kids for them because they're to lazy to do any parenting.reply - The Bee... Seras S... 2012/04/03 19:14:25
In the mean time we have to deal with the fallout. Yup!reply - Shikari666 2012/03/31 13:18:59No+1In my opinion, most of the scares in Amnesia are pretty cheap. The old Resident Evil and Silent Hill games are far scarier due to the atmosphere. Even the controls of those games added to the fear you hadreply

Haha, yeah.reply - BabyBear 2012/03/31 07:52:47No+1But then again, I read Lovecraft for my bedtime stories. I find old fashioned creepy, where all the horror is implied and your imagination tries to conjure images of something much scarier than blood & bodies. (Think exorcist - when the priest is at the bottom of the stairs scene )reply

- suomynonA 2012/03/31 03:38:33No+2Wasnt able to wrap my head around why so many people were scared of the first one, and the second one is obviously a total remake but still not scary. Ive seen actual scary stuff, things that i would probably get banned from sodahead for linking to... (Easy Hint: Real-life uncensored police crime-scene photos, and humans in horrible accidents.) Once you've sifted through that, nothing is scary anymore, trust me.reply

+2I agree, Real life is a lot scarier. I think that's why so many are retreating into fantasy worlds, so they don't have to face realityreply - liz is still alive 2012/03/31 03:08:41Yes+2It freaked me out so badly when I played it alone...reply
- budgerigar42 2012/03/31 02:41:58YesThis creeps me out so much. So does limbo. What is not scary about a darkness zombie child in an all-black and white hell with gory death spiders and traps that decapitate when touched and maggots that eat your brain?
