"Amnesia: The Dark Descent" is largely regarded as the scariest video game ever made. Even fans of the "Silent Hill" series were stunned when the experimental horror game was released in 2010. Compilation videos of people reacting to the game went viral. Now Frictional Games, the original developers, are turning the project over to a studio called thechineseroom, creators of ghost adventure game "Dear Esther," to create "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs."

Dan Pinchbeck, creative director at thechineseroom, told Gamasutra, "We want this game to be absolutely skin-crawlingly, heart-shatteringly, and nerve-jarringly terrifying -- that's the target. Everything is geared around that. Just turning people to complete ice and making them have complete meltdowns ... If we don't frighten people as much as the original, then we've failed. But now we have to frighten people that know what to expect." It's slated for Fall 2012.

I'm not sure. The first game wouldn't work on any computers/laptops i've had..but i heard it was pretty darn scary! so hopefully this time around it'll be playable on more devices. I'd like to try it :)

Amnesia is scary but I have played games and watched game play of games that make me jump more than Amnesia. The whole pig slaughter effect sounds creepy but I don't picture myself shutting off the computer after playing.
Edit: Also on account of all the "scarier" games people are posting below that didn't scare me except for a little jump.. I think I'll be fine.

For me it's a no, I wont be able to stop laughing at the name and I don't see the game being very good if they handed development over to the Dear Esther game crew, I really don't think I'm going to prefer it one bit over the original Amnesia but I'm still going to try it.

Actually I would have to say I do not know, only I did not have that option to pick. I suck at video games so I do not play them. My favorite game is at the arcade, its the one where you bop the gopher on the head with a foam mallet.

Dead Space and Dead Space 2 were cheap scares. I mean, come on! All the "scary" moments were just Necromorphs popping out and yelling "boo!" They never let the atmosphere take over enough, it was just one fight after another. I played the game while no-one was in my house, as late as I was going to stay up (around the hours of 9:00 pm to 11:00pm) with all lights off. I blew through the game only jumping twice. What DS and DS2 don't realize is that it is much scarier if your mind does all the work, not the monsters.

i never jumped, it just gave me a feeling of complete vunerability, i kicked the games ass. it was designed to not scare the sh** out of you, but to make you paranoid

It's kind of hard to be pariniod if the people trying to murder me are standing at the other end of the hallway and all I have to do to get rid of them is shoot meh big gunz into their face a couple times. Amneisa was much better at creating that sense because you could never know where the enemy was, and even if you did know you couldnt do anything about it besides run like hell.

Dudes I got nightmares after watching YouTube videos of Tobuscus playing it. The guy was cracking jokes every thirty seconds and I was ready to wet my pants. One thing I know for sure is that I won't be playing this one when it comes out. That's for sure.
