Until about a year ago, Adam Sandler's movies were studio gold. Even the critical clunkers, like "Don't Mess With the Zohan" and "Just Go With It," were making upwards of $100 million in profits. But in mid-2011, the stink caught up with him. "Jack and Jill" fell under the $100 million mark, taking in about $70 million over the budget, and notoriously swept the Razzies. His latest film, "That's My Boy," is looking to follow suit.
E! suggests Sandler's fall from grace could be attributed to several different things: backlash from "Jack and Jill" reviews, new-breed comedies like "The Hangover," trying to stretch in too many directions, and simple entropy. But it could just be a dry spell. It's not like Adam Sandler is going to ignore the negative feedback... right? Hasn't he still got another "Mr. Deeds" or "Waterboy" in him somewhere?
