Why Is Parent’s Group Having S—t Fit Over New Shatner Sitcom?

The Parents Television Council is threatening to challenge the broadcast licenses of CBS affiliates if they air the network’s new William Shatner-led comedy, “Shit My Dad Says.” The show, based on a popular Twitter feed (and officially titled “$#*! My Dad Says”), is slated to hit the air in the fall, but the parent’s group, which monitors decency issues, said it will challenge the licenses of any affiliate that airs or promotes the sitcom before 10 p.m.

The show, about a dad whose son posts his politically incorrect rants on Twitter, is currently slated to air on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. A spokesperson for the PTC said the group is outraged that the Tiffany Network would air a show with a name that features an expletive or an expletive clearly bleeped out and expressed concern about parents having to explain the title to their children should a promo for the program come up while they’re watching TV together.

CBS has countered that the Twitter feed the sitcom is based on, which uses the unexpurgated obscenity, has more than 1.5 million followers and has spun off a book and that that the show will not be indecent and can easily be blocked using a V Chip.

Do you think CBS affiliates should be punished for promoting the show?

NEED TO GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR OWN AS*** and get a grip on REALITY. Kids have been FAR from "innocent" for YEARS. The only kids I can think of who by age 8 have not heard the word "sh**", would be the AMISH, and THEY don't have TV'S!!!

What the $#*!$#*! $#*! does this have to do with Shatner, other than him staring in the show?

I wonder if Tipper Gore(Yes, Al's wife) has her finger prints on this like she did the PMRC back in the 80s. You know, the fine folks that tried to censor your music?

The FCC is not making a stink about it. This parents group forgets where most children learn swear words from: their parents.

Parents Television Council is bored at the moment because no one longer cares for what they have to say. Every new television has the V chip now and parents no longer have to sign petitions to put a stop to bad television, so now the PTC is trying to save their collective butts by trying to make a stink over something that is solved by 1 minute of any caring parents time. Their days are number, PTC is no longer needed and they know it.

I am sick of clucking parental groups altogether. They are worried that parents will have to "explain the title to their children should a promo for the program come up while they’re watching TV together"? Try this. "It's a naughty word." That took, what, 2 seconds? Not even. They are SO desperate to sensor things that they want to make sure even censored language gets re-censored. I thought that is why we were FORCED to by this damned V chip which nobody ever uses? Hell, half of America probably doesn't even know it's in their television, much less care. You can simply block the hell out of any channel you take offense to and, good news, whiny bitches with too much free time on their hands have let you know months in advance that it's coming. I hope they don't have to explain the title to anyone for having brought it up. These are the same morons that are "shocked" to find out their teenage boy has looked at *gasp* pornography (i.e., naked women, nothing worse) on the Internet!

never like the guy, and I have no interest in watching (big oops!) this show. I have better things to do than listen to or watch more crap. However, the dog watchers should step down and get a life, there is an audience for this kind of programing and they are trying to force their views and taste on these viewers.
The time of this show is 8:30PM, children should be sleeping at this time and not be allowed on the living room, den or any other room where the TV is on.

You know what I find odd about a lot of American parents? The whole "Our children can't hear "curse" words! They can't see nudity!" but when it comes to violence, it's suddenly not so bad. >_>

Here, the "curse word" is censored out in the title.

Looks entertaining, to be honest... and that's not just because I'm a Shatner fan (seriously, he's awesome)... well, maybe it is xD

Totally, it's like parents would rather their child get into a fistfight in school than say a cruse word, because violence is everywhere on television!

...violence is only "everywhere" because we allow it to be. It's more accepted than using all of the English language or something natural like nudity. I will never understand that mentality.

Yes, they should know better than to promote a show with such a vulgar title ...

And they discontinued a great show like "24" for this?!
