Why didn't the Japanese emperor bow in return when Soetorro bowed to him?

The Simmering Frog November 17, 2009 05:40:02

The Japanese emperor didn't bow because that's no longer the custom.
He simply forgot. Yes we can!

The Japanese emperor didn't bow because that's no longer the custom.

He has some dignity and self respect.

I think there's just a little bit too much bowing going on here.

Probably because he didn't think himself secondary to Obama and liked the adulation. Tell you what, I wouldn't bow to that putz either.

Umm...the Japanese emperor DID bow to him, just not as deeply as Obama did.

He simply did not. Perhaps you are watching something else.

Umm, yes he did. That little nod he did with his upper body was a bow, the empress did, too. Unless you've BEEN to Japan, or know some FOB's, I think you probably haven't been exposed to such a thing enough to notice, of course, anime doesn't count because they usually exaggerate bows.

OK, dude. Let's use a few more mirrors and some more smoke to confuse the entire point here.

You can see it plainly. The emperor bows once when Obama bows to him, then the empress bows when he bows to her, and REPEATEDLY. That slight incline of their body is a subtle Japanese BOW, genius.

Oh, ok. So I guess everybody just imagined Soetorro bowed while the emperor shook his hand. Only you know the real truth GLaDOS. The Emperor bowed also apparently. Let me guess, 911 was an inside job, right?

Obama bowed far more deeply than necessary, no wonder you only saw it when compared to the very subtle head bow of the Emperor and Empress (who, again, bowed repeatedly).

Really, I've been to Japan. That little inclination of the head was a bow in Japan. GLaDOS isn't a conspiracy nutjob.

At least not on this point. ;) LOL

It has never been the custom. Obama is the 1st president to bow and is proof that he doesn't have a clue about being president.

The choices are not the greatest. BUT:

The POTUS taking a subservient stance to a foregin power is a no-no. The United States bows to no one.

Please find something of substance to complain about rather than these trite non-issues.

I never think about myself there are other issues in this world that's more important than a bow. He isn't the first president to bow to an foreign ruler.

Well apparently stopping massive government spending isn't high on your agenda.

Why do I suspect I'm having a discussion with another college aged starry eyed idealist with all the answers to the world's problems?

I recall saying there are more important things to worry about than a bow.

Good for you. Did you ever challenge your liberal college profs or did you just sit there in awe of their pablum?

I mean, did you ever challenge or did you simply just accept their pablum at face value? Anyone can do that.

Who should America apologize to next, oh smart one?

This is not a non-issue. The President of the United States has insulted one of our our biggest allies. This is an issue for the Japanese people, ergo it is a issue.
