Hmmmm...
of the ones listed here, I would say Segovia is the "best" on THIS list.
my favorite, on THIS list is George Harrison.
But the ones I think are truly the BEST don't appear on the list, (save for Segovia)
And neither do my "favorites", who are for the most part consistent with the best.
Steve Vai
Leo Kottke
Steve Howe
Trevor Rabin
Jimmy Page
Frank and/or Dweezil Zappa
Robert Fripp
Adrian Belew
Steve Morse
Steve Howe
John Williams
Los Indios Tabajaras
Carlos Santana
John McGlauglin (sp?)
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Jeff Beck
Brian May
David Gilmour
a handful of others.
Who's your favorite guitarrist ?

Yngwie Malmsteen (Steeler, Alcatrazz, solo),
Slash (Guns N' Roses, Slash's Snakepit, Velvet Revolver, session work),
Angus Young/Malcolm Young (AC/DC),
Steve Vai (Frank Zappa, Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, Whitesnake, solo),
Randy Rhoads* (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne), Bo Diddley,
Duane Eddy,
Joe Walsh (The Eagles, The James Gang, solo),

Just to name a few who paved the way and influenced others. "playing the guitar is not work, it's religion", a friend of mine said to me one day while watching him practice.
Also have heard Carlos Santana in concert (second row), and he was also unforgettable.
