UFC president Dana White announced during the "UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz" press conference on Wednesday that Carlos Condit will remain the number one contender for Georges St-Pierre's welterweight title. Condit was originally slated to challenge GSP in the main event, but the champion had to pull out due to injury. The fight is expected to take place early next year.
In its place is an intriguing welterweight match-up between former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz and UFC legend BJ Penn. Diaz was originally scheduled to fight GSP in a "champion vs. champion" themed fight, with the UFC title on the line. Unfortunately, Diaz no-showed two press conferences, drawing the ire of his boss and ended up being replaced by Condit. Diaz has won 10 straight fights and has not lost since 2007, although he has not faced a fighter the caliber of Penn in years -- if ever.
While Penn is coming off of a controversial draw against Jon Fitch earlier this year, the welterweight and lightweight champion looks to leapfrog in the rankings with a win over Diaz. What works against Penn's favor even if he does win is that GSP has already beaten him twice -- including a decisive beat-down in their title fight. Regardless, Penn is still a big name and could do big business for the UFC should he get back into contention.
Both fighters will be out to prove that they should be next in line after GSP vs. Condit. Given Diaz's camp's recent comments, if he finishes Penn, he will look to get a shot before Condit. That certainly remains to be seen -- especially when Condit has something to say about it. UFC 137 airs live on pay-per-view on Saturday, October 29.

Heisenberg 2011/10/28 20:06:01Nick Diaz

Sure he has like maximum skills , but I'm unfairly above his weight/height and got decent skills myself...
Dana White , call me :P
It wont be long until GSP goes up in weight class or Anderson Silva drops down. Really, at this point in the game, neither Silva nor GSP have any real competition.
But I wanna see him fight Jake Shields again, because tht night he looked incredibly sloppy. Nothing against GSP though, everyone has a bad night.
But seeing as now that Shields is fighting top tier opponents he's on a 2 loss streak already, I don't think he'll be getting another title shot with the WW devision getting staced again.
One thing. Diaz looked so stupid calling out GSP and saying he was scared.
1st... he BARELY held out against Penn. Did anybody see his face? And he thinks he can take GSP? What a joke. He better train really hard.
2nd... he thinks GSP is scared? Who couldn't be bothered to show up for not one but two press conferences... the second after Dana White sent a plane for him, and he calls GSP scared. What a joke.
I dislike Nick Diaz.
That being said, I called the victor on every fight except one. Big Country. :(
Do you want a run down of tonight's fights? LOL

But yes thank you for that link!
Yea I dislike Diaz too. He's been ducking fights with Jon Fitch and Mayhem Miller for like 2 years, but has the nerve to say GSP, the #2 P4P fighter is scared. Like you said; after not showing up for two press confrenses AND having like 3 different flights booked for him.
Dana said just in re-booking his flights he spent like a grand. The guy's a dick. And after GSP takes out Condit, I can't wait to see Diaz' face and hear what he says after the fight.
I predictc a 29-28 Unanimous decision for Nick Diaz.
