Now that 2012 is over, we can't help but ponder about our greatest heroes of the past year. Be it a celebrity, a politician or a savvy businessman, who was it that made you most proud to be an American this past year?
After a grueling election, President Barack Obama was reelected for a second term as president of the United States -- and he was also named TIME magazine's "Person of the Year."
George Lucas captured the hearts of the nation when he sold the rights to "Star Wars" to Disney for over $4 billion -- then pledged to use almost every cent of the money to improve the American education system.
Taylor Swift released a critically acclaimed and commercially successful album titled "Red" -- but perhaps more importantly, she also donated more money to charity than any other celebrity in the past year, making her the most charitable celebrity of 2012.

Channing Tatum won plaudits for his performances and productions this year, including "Magic Mike" -- and he was also named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive." Plus, he even managed to get his wife pregnant! (Mazel Tov.)
There were also heroes of the Olympic games. Michael Phelps now has 22 Olympic medals, by far and away the most of any Olympian in history. Ryan Lochte collected five medals and became an international heartthrob overnight. And let's not forget 16-year-old Gabby Douglas, who became the first African-American gymnast in Olympic history to become the individual all-round champion.
So, who's your hero of 2012? Is there someone who inspired you that we've missed? We'd love to hear all about it!

A picture speaks a thousand words
Batman
He passed away during the summer - was the longest week of her life. But, she is recovering, and yeah, she IS my hero.
My hero is and always will be my grandmother and I laugh at the stupidity of the world.
This poll and some of these answers are proof our society has gone off track! Channing Tatum? HERO? The reason these people are able to give to charity is because they are RICH! Obama wants to take what they earned and give it to the Government! Is that honorable?!!!!! What is the definition of hero today? What is NOBLE about anyone on this list?
By not voting him in power, we are now, with this administration, going down the path of fiscal insolvency. If we lose our standing as the monetary reserve to China and our currency evaporates (a good possibility), a loaf of bread in the grocery store might just cost $100... no kidding around here. Americans are absolutely more clueless to how the economy works than Obama.
