After 28 years on "LIVE! With Regis and Kelly," Regis Philbin will step down next Friday, leaving a big seat to fill beside perky co-host Kelly Ripa. And the latest Reege replacement to be floated is ... Dana Carvey.
The "Saturday Night Live" alum is, perhaps coincidentally, known for his impressions of forever-young 80-year-old Regis. And according to The New York Post, the backstage buzz has Carvey
as a top contender.
While nothing is confirmed yet, we think Carvey, 56, would make a great choice. Not only is he hilarious whether he's playing Garth or the Church Lady, he's also a genuinely nice family man, which comes across if you've ever seen one of his stand-up shows.
Other celebs, like Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos and "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest, have also been in the running, but reports say these two are pretty much out. From Carvey to Seacrest to guest-host Jerry Seinfeld, click through our slideshow and let us know: Who should replace Regis Philbin?
