Bill Haley made the first rock and roll song, Rock Around the Clock.
    Elvis stole his music.

Linnster is correct in that Rock Around the Clock was the first recorded song
to be classified " Rock and Roll " , so Bill Hailey and his Comets were first.

I wasnt there in the 1950s but I think thats correct. My favorite Bill Hailey song I know of is
Crazy Man Crazy featured in the t.v . show Glory in the Flower which was anti drugs.Rock
started out more clean cut than jazz but its totally switched places regarding substance abuse.GITF was a anti drug t.v. show that had James Dean in a cameo as a marijuana
    smoking teen.

Ive heard Crazy Man Crazy was the 1st rock song played on t.v.Some say James Dean
was rumored to have been learning to play guitar on the set of Giant but Dean wasnt
known for having a good voice although Elvis said if Dean had sung hed have sounded
    like Ricky Nelson.

Bill Haley recorded Rock Around the Clock before Elvis recorded his first song, It's All Right Mama in 1954.
