I feel she was not the typical Vulcan. She showed that Vulcans did have emotions and was able to make emotional connections. The stoicness of the Vulcans was really explored in this series. We learned much about Vulcan which in the other series were limited. Having a full blooded Vulcan as a crew member allow the viewer much insight into the world of Vulcan.

I like Hoshi. She's a character that I found to be believable. Sure, she's a linguistic genius and can figure out just about any language she encounters if given enough time with it, but she's also got some real human problems. Sure, problems that people who are used to the genre will find trivial and even silly, but to her, these were things that affected her and made her feel uncomfortable. She's an academic who doesn't have her "Space legs" yet, meaning that she's not used to space travel. She literally "white knuckles" the transition in and out of Warp during the first season, which is totally understandable for someone in her position. She had problems with her quarters facing the wrong way; meaning that when she looks out the window, the stars are going "backwards". She had to adjust to the food and the close quarters. She'd never gone for a "real" spacewalk but was thrust into it by necessity.
To just about everyone on that ship, the mission was business as usual, but to her, it was a case of being pushed into a situation that she was far from comfortable with. Granted, these were all problems that she got over as time went by, but it took time. To me, she's the most "human" of the characters in that series and I really admire the way Linda Park portrayed her.

    Besides,...

Besides, how can you not like a character who can tell a Vulcan to "f**k off" in their native language? Which she did in the very first episode, if I'm not mistaken. ;-)

No one. Hated this show with a passion. Don't consider it part of Trek continuity, even if it officially is.
