    Joe Namath...

Led the first AFL team to a victory over an NFL team, at a time when many still thought that no team in the AFL was an equal to any team in the NFL.

In 1969, Superbowl III, Baltimore Colts with Unitas vs. NY Jets with Namath. Superbowls I and II were total blowouts for the NFL. All the sports writers and pundits mocked the idea of the Jets even being competitive (one writer a week before the game claims the Superbowl would be Namath's "first professional football game").
Three days prior to the game, all the press were allowed to see of the Colts was them hard at work on the field. But the Jets were often seen relaxing, with Namath poolside with a drink in his hand and several pretty women nearby. When teased by a Colts fan, Namath told him (and the press) "We're going to win Sunday. I guarantee it!"

They did! 16-7, with Namath getting the MVP award for his performance.

Back before the QB became a prima donna and the league said you could not touch him you had great players like Bart Starr and Jonny Unites who stood their ground to complete a pass knowing along they were going to get leveled.

In modern times, I like Steve Young - he was competitive on the field and down to earth off the field. But my all time favorite was George Blanda - that guy was tough.

Yeah he lost those superbowls in my opinion becase the games with us took alot out of the team. The Browns n broncos beat the hell out of each others.I was happy to see him get those two at the end.You knew the heartbreak a few yrs.

You could very well be right about those early superbowls. I hadn't thought about that. Those were some tough games between the Browns and Broncos for sure. That look on Elway's face, tho, ... says it all. He played heart and soul he wanted those SB wins so much.

I should've chosen Matt Ryan, seeing as he's my favorite at the moment. I kinda stopped rooting for Vick when he went to Philly.

Yeah yeah yeah...everyone knows about this. I never said Mike was my favorite person in the world (especially considering i HAVE a pit bull,) but i was asked who my favorite QB was. His personal life doesn't change that he's a good football player.

I also said that if I had seen Matt Ryan up there, i would've chosen him. so the picture of animal rights and old news wasn't necessary :(
