A second award and a tip of the hat needs to go to German competitor Luz Long, often lost to history, for assisting Owens in the long jump.
Iconic athletes indeed.
Several other misconceptions about the 1936 Olympics are prevalent. Not only was Owens not rebuffed by Hitler, Owens wasn't shunned by the German audience at the Berlin stadium either. Baker reports that Owens so captured the imagination of the crowd it gave him several ear-shattering ovations. Owens had been prepared for a hostile reception; a coach had warned him in advance not to be upset by anything that might happen in the stands."Ignore the insults," Owens was told,"and you'll be all right." Later Owens recalled that he had gotten the greatest ovations of his career at Berlin.
if people learned the truth about events ,how much better might this world be than with the endless demonization we live with?
now where do you think the germans got the idea for "master race " from? why from the chosenites thats who.LOL
and yes they got the idea from the jews who always kept themselves apart from the germans and held the belief that they were better than everyone else. why do you think the germans decided they were enemies of the state?Hitler worked CLOSELY with Pope Pius in converting Germanic society and supporting the church. The Church absorbed Nazi ideals and preached them as part of their sermons in turn Hitler placed Catholic teachings in public education.
Using scripture to justify ones evil actions doesn't make someone a Christian or even representative of Christian doctrine. It simply reveals the evil of the perpatrator. Hitler was NOT a Christian and I am sure you are quite sure you are aware of that fact. You can believe the falsehood you think is "truth", but you are simply demonstrating the level to which evil has enveloped your own life!
go back into the hole who crawled out of .
for IF I could .. I'd pick both Jesse Owens
(for the fact that he was SUCH A gentleman despite the Definite SNUB and abominable treatment by Hitler in the Berlin Games)
.. as well as Jim Thorpe ..
(his accomplishments in Track Field .. the pentathlon/decathlon won him the admiration of Sweden's King in those Olympic Games .. and he also played pro baseball before his acting career)
both these gentlemen had impacts far beyond the Games themselves ..
and should be recognized ..
I've worded above .. to try to politely say what Hitler chose to do ..
(and oh, yes, Hitler was infuriated at all those who were making his 'chosen ones' appear to be .. well .. not so 'chosen' after all)
BOTH of these Gentlemen do deserve Recognition far and away ..
(and Owens .. was recognized well ... for his athletic accomplishments .. at the Games as well as afterwards)
above the other choices listed ..
they were AHEAD of their times .. and very much Gentlemen indeed ..
and also read the papers of those who surrounded Hitler in terms of his personal staff that were part and parcel of what was .. captured when Nazi Germany fell and Hitler committed suicide ..
(as well as having access to historical museums and records too .. there's a lot to be said in HONOR of all those who encouraged (including the Military Commanders of the time) who told their soldiers to RECORD Everything for posterity .. take photos .. write down what you see and experience ... put them in the ARCHIVES) ..
I'm always fascinated at the little things ..
who was where .. what happened .. the gossip that surrounds commands and who propped up and supported in various and sundry ways .. (including via threats and repression/fear) regimes ..
