SLIDESHOW: Most Fascinating Person of 2011?

The Kardashians
1 of 8

The Kardashians

The Kardashians count as one person, according to Barbara Walters. We'll admit it, we were riveted when Kim filed for divorce just 72 days after her zillion-dollar wedding. But "fascinating"? Not so much.

  2. Katy Perry

    Katy Perry

This year, Perry tied with Michael Jackson to become the second artist (and the first woman) in the 53-year history of the Hot 100 chart to earn five No. 1 singles off the same album. And she's cute, too ...

  3. Simon Cowell

    Simon Cowell

Fox won the November "sweeps" thanks in part to Cowell's "X Factor," but the show is far from being an "American Idol"-esque sensation.

  4. Donald Trump

    Donald Trump

Trump considered running for president this year, then changed his mind. Not sure what's so fascinating about that ...

  5. Pippa Middleton

    Pippa Middleton

Middleton is famous for precisely two reasons: 1. her rear end and 2. being related to someone who is married to someone who is famous for being related to certain people.

  6. Eric Stonestreet

    Eric Stonestreet

Together with his "Modern Family" partner Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Stonestreet makes being gay married (or partnered, if you're being technical) look just like being straight married -- except more fun.

  7. Jesse Tyler Ferguson

    Jesse Tyler Ferguson

On "Modern Family," Ferguson plays an uptight lawyer happily (and comically) partnered with Eric Stonestreet.

  8. Derek Jeter

    Derek Jeter

The New York Yankee scored his record-setting 3,000th hit this year -- and split with longtime girlfriend Minka Kelly.

At 82, Barbara Walters might finally be slipping a bit. Walters unveiled her annual "10 Most Fascinating People" of the year list (well, seven of them plus the Kardashian family plus one name still to be announced), and there's hardly a person on there who isn't tabloid fodder.

Take, for example, the Kardashians (apparently, they count as one person). We'll admit it, we were riveted when Kim filed for divorce just 72 days after her zillion-dollar wedding. But are Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Kris "fascinating"? Not so much.

Then there's Pippa Middleton, a woman famous for a) her rear end and b) being related to someone who is married to someone who is famous for being related to certain people.

Others on the list -- like Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who play a gay couple on "Modern Family" -- have some social significance, at least. And we'll always take an excuse to look at pictures of Katy Perry.

Walters will reveal The No. 1 Most Fascinating Person of 2011 Dec. 14 on ABC. In the meantime, from the Kardashians to Katy Perry to Donald Trump, click through our slideshow and let us know: Who is the most fascinating person of 2011?

There should have been a choice for NONE OF THE ABOVE. Barbara Walters must be getting senile, especially if she thinks people like Donald Trump, the Kardashian skanks and Simon Cowell are still "fascinating." The only reason Donald Trump got headlines this year was for spouting that "birther" nonsense and his maybe/maybe not candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination. Simon Cowell has done nothing of note in 2011, other than import his "X Factor" to America, a show that isn't garnering the vast amount of publicity, high ratings or critical reviews as his British version.

However, the worst pick of Walters' passel of (IMO) UN-fascinating people of 2011 is the Kardashian clan. I think the American public is sick to death of hearing about this group of white trash. They've put everything about their family out there for their fans to watch, and I don't find them fascinating or interesting in the least. Just because that whore Kim televised a bogus wedding to Kris Humphries, and then promptly filed for divorce, does NOT make them newsworthy. This family has contributed NOTHING of value to society or mankind as a whole. I already know more about these phony, money-grubbing publicity whores than I ever wanted to know. How's about we declare a Kardashian moratorium in 2012 and ...

How's about we declare a Kardashian moratorium in 2012 and cease giving them the press they so desperately desire? Maybe THEN they'll just go away.

I chose Pippa Middleton as the most fascinating person this year. Sure, she's famous because her sister married the future King of England, but she's a successful woman in her own right. She's a working gal with an excellent education, and she is employed in her family's successful party-planning business. She may be tabloid fodder, but not out of her own desire. She's conscious of her position in life, and she remains an enigma because she's mostly a private person. Despite the media attention given her (and her shapely rear end) since sister Kate's marriage to Prince William, she has avoided any breath of scandal or other bad publicity. Now SHE is a person I can admire. If you hold Pippa Middleton up to sleazebags like the Kardashians, there's no contest as to who has the most class, charisma and natural charm.

I don't think of them as fascinating but they were all over the place. TV, radio, magazines. I'm surprised Justin Beiber didn't make the list.
