My other fave 1 album wonder is X-Ray Spex.

Yeah, other always belongs, because the best is the Misfits. Thee guys except Sex Pistols, where all pop punk. I like them all, but they're strange itterations of punk rock that mis the general concensus of what is punk. Black flag anybody?

Did you really just call the Dead Kennedys pop punk? Just, no.

The Ramones were the first band to be called "punk", The Clash were largely responsible for the political edge that became an intrinsinc part of punk, and the Dead Kennedys furthered the tradition with intelligent biting lyrics, manic perfomances, and can safely be called one of the most influential punk bands of all time.

How have they missed the "general concensus of what is punk"?

The Sex Pistols were a marketing gimmick created by a fashion mogul.

PiL was pretty good, though.

Alright, the Kennedy's sure, but the Clash was very overated. Their songs didn't follow punk anything except for lyrics. Never could mosh to em'. Non the less as far as origins, yes the Pistols where made, but they definitely rang truer than most on the list. Ramones where good, but they where still pop punk, even if they where the fitst to make it.

The Ramones put punk on the map.I remember getting a fake id in the summer of 78 to see the Ramones for the 1st time at CBGB's in NY.From 1978-1995 I musta seen these guys over 100 times.Their shows were always fun.

Had to go with the clash. You didn't really give enough choices. If you got the Ramones in the top 4, then why isn't Green Day there ? They are more punk than the Ramones.
