DK are my favourite but I was a huge Clash fan too, Its a shame the court cases between the former DK member seem to have tainted their legacy. Tough choice though, they were all so influential in different ways.

The Ramones were the inspiration for all the Brit punk bands.
I Wanna Be Sedated, Rock and Roll High School,Rockaway Beach, Blitzkrieg Bop etcetc
I can't think of any tune by the Pistols other than God Save the Queen.

Everyone thinks punk died after the seventies. I call Bullocks, It just went back underground. Then Greenday and The Offspring unearthed it. And Bands like Blink 182 and Good Charlotte tried to kill it again.

I was wondering who was going to bring up Blink 182 and Good Charlotte first. I guess I now know. I used to groan (aka: complain loudly) when the youngin's would tout the "genius" of those two bands. When I'd point them back to the mid-80's -- early 90's, they'd roll their eyes and act like I had google-eye glasses on or something. I would then proceed to consider the death of modern music.

Anyone who touts those bands, have no clue what the original punk movement was about. Blink 182, Sum 41, Good Charolette and every emo band that pretends to be punk is the sold out version. There's a reason why the word "pop" shows up before punk when ever it's registered in Itunes. I remember when The Descendants were the only Pop Punk band that existed.

Yeah I knew Goth would soon be a footnote when the apparel began selling at Hot Topic. Modern Day Gothers Believe Twilight was made for the Goth crowd. On that Day Robert Smith actually contemplated suicide.

Even back in the 80's, I thought Robert Smith was one weird cat. I've never been one for the "tortured artist" type of anything, but he really went for it and it worked for him.

I had a friend of mine that paid about $80 for a pair of Tripp pants (Google these abominations if you've never heard of them) at Hot Topic. When I asked her why she bought them, she sighed and rolled her eyes. I suddenly knew how my mom felt the first time I came home wearing a leather jacket and an earring.

I actually had to go to google images to find out what you were talking about. Funny thing is I've seen them. They're like the Dirt bag equivalent to Bell Bottoms.
I've got to count my blessings my Daughter isn't into any of that crap. I couldn't imagine Laundry day thinking everyday of this kids life is Halloween. I'm sure my mom hated that I had Long hair when I was a teenager, but with 8 kids she probably saw my lack of hair cuts as a way to save money.

What a piss poor selection you gave us! Out of these four, the Clash is definitely my choice. I dig the Ramones, too. The Sex Pistols was a fashionable shock rock group that didn't believe in what they sang about, and I never got into the Dead Kennedys because Biafra's voice bugged me.

Best punk band of all-time, though? That honor will always go to Minor Threat, in my book.
