As new styles emerge and the popular icons of the past move on to the next phase of life, younger generations are looking toward up-and-coming icons they can connect with. An "it girl" is a young woman who exemplifies her generation's idea of... it. You know, "it." It's not necessarily a physical thing, though that can definitely help. "It" has a lot to do with personality, but mostly it's just... "it."

Well, Vanity Fair put together a list of popular young women who they think possess the qualities of an "it girl," all between the ages of 21 (Jennifer Lawrence) and 36 (Paula Patton). The list includes "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara, "The Help" actress Jessica Chastain, and even Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's younger sister, Elizabeth. We've included the full list as options. Who do you think is Hollywood's top "it girl"?

BTW, doesn't Jennifer Lawrence remind you of Veronica Lake in the Vanity Fair cover? Ad Elizabeth Olsen looks kind of like Grace Kelly in that hairstyle... And a lot of them resemble either Elizabeth Taylor or Ginger Rogers.
