Howard Cosell....I could tell you what he said to get fired from Monday Night Football, but I don't want hate mail. It was directed however at Freeman McNeil.
Howard Cosell deserves to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He's not in and I can't understand someone making the contributions he did not even being mentioned there in Canton. Here are a couple of quotes to support his nomination. "Howard Cosell was Monday Night Football. Without Howard Cosell, there was no Monday Night Football." - Director MNF, Chet Forte
"Every person working in sports journalism today owes a tremendous debt to Howard Cosell. His greatest contribution was elevating sports reporting out of daily play-by-play and placing it in the larger context of society." -- Roone Arledge, former President of ABC Sports
"Cosell is the franchise. He may also be the most valuable property in American sports. There's no question that Howard Cosell was the most important sports journalist of our time, and because so much of what he did transcended sports, he was one of the most important journalists... period." -- Sports Journalist, SportsWorld Magazine, Robert Lipsyte
"No one has had a greater impact on sports-casting and television sports journalism." -- George Steinbrenner, N.Y. Yankees

Howard Cosell with Frank and Dandy Don Meredtih made MNF one of the biggest watched TV events. Howard could be flippant and loud mouthed but him and Ali were friends. Those were the days of football.
Easy I'm no kid H.C. ;) Too bad about his 'Little Monkey' comment on MNF which is believed to be the reason he left the show.He refused to apoligize because he had called white players the same.'To the video tape' actually proved he had done just that.lol People need to chill out and lighten up on their political correctness nowadays. It lights a bulb in my head every time people do this type of thing. In much the same manner a homophobic denounces gays. What are they hiding or covering up I always think. https://www.youtube.com/watch...
I first heard him in 1964 on the local news (abc) in New York. Then he came on the radio and started every broadcast with: "This is Howard Cosell, speaking of sports." As a lawyer, he was the only nationally known broadcaster to denounce organized boxing for stripping Mohammud Ali of his Heavyweight Title before the case had been adjudicated in the Courts. When SCOTUS ruled that Mohammud Ali was a Muslim Minister and did not have to serve in the military, Howard Cosell became a household name. Then came Monday Night Football where he became a legend. Howard Cosell, R.I.P. !
