Her voice sent goose bumps up my spine every time i heard her sing. I grieved for her troubled life, and prayed she could overcome her problems. God must have needed her voice in His choir, and took her home for some peace. My heart goes out to her loved ones

but with no comprehension of how to interpret a lyric or how to perform; she had an unrivaled, unforgettable voice distinctly hers, but she used it only to show off how great her voice was, ushering in a generation of pyrotechnic, show-offy singers who have no emotional relationship with their material. I wish her no harm, and was shocked and saddened for her that she died so young. But think for a minute of Judy Garland, not only the possessor of a great voice, but also an emotional powerhouse who could hold stadiums full of people in her sway because she was willing to feel what she was singing, exposing her inner self to the world and its slings and arrows. But none of that matters now. Rest in peace, Whitney Houston.

....odd that Dolly Parton thought she emotionally interpreted her song wonderfully...."In an interview with UK music magazine Q, Dolly Parton said she "was blown away" by Whitney's version. She said: "The way she took that simple song of mine and made it such a mighty thing, it almost became her song. Some writers say, 'Ooh, I hate the way they've done that to my song or that version wasn't what I had in mind.' I just think it's wonderful that people can take a song and do it so many different ways." I would say Houston did an excellent job interpreting Dolly's lyrics. The "emotional" dynamic you speak of, in Houston's case is called "Soul" and she had it in truckloads

Just like MJ. Didn't like their music, they were both flakes, and I'm sick of hearing about them.

I think the poll should of had all the above,as I remember it all..It's a really bad shame that so many great artists and movie stars are so caught up in the drug and drinking world, and a lot of it if from being pressured, when they really dont need to be.Or a pill for sleeping a pill for staying awake a pill for relaxing and list goes on.I liked Whitney she had a wonderful voice, and made so many bad choices in her life, but she is with her God now,and I am sure at peace.God bless you Girl...RIP... Unfortunately, as a bad actress and a tragedy. I wish she would have cared for her voice and her career as much as her fans did...

    Sad.

Pfffttt another musician who blew their money and fortune on drugs... cliche. Know we can refer to it as "Pullin' a Whitney"
  • Leah John Storz 2012/02/13 00:01:00
    Leah
Maybe we should try to avoid using that term. It's pretty disrespectful.
  • John Storz Leah 2012/02/13 00:39:33
    John Storz
No more disrespectful than the phrase "His name is mud" or any other phrase based on someone's name. So no, maybe we shouldn't avoid it. Besides, disrespect is hardly a valid reason for censorship.
  • Leah John Storz 2012/02/13 00:42:01
    Leah
I didn't suggest censorship, I just said that it's rude. Whitney Houston should be remembered for her talent, not for her addiction.
  • John Storz Leah 2012/02/13 00:50:34

To deny her addiction would portray her as a role model, and I doubt any aspiring artist should shoot for a brief career on top followed by an abusive marriage and years of substance abuse. The whole package should be remembered, if at all. And really it's not like she was a Mozart or a Beethoven. She should serve as a lesson on "how not to live your life".
  • Leah John Storz 2012/02/13 01:44:31
    Leah
I'm not saying we should view her as a role model. I think that we should appreciate the music she made, and respect her as a person. We should not really deny her addiction, but it shouldn't be her legacy.

    regardless of the talent,
" the good / great looks
    " all the money
    " the fame and reconition

the fact remains the same,, alcohol & drugs.. there are three outcome to them

    JAIL
    INSTITUTION
    DEATH.

the options do not look any fun to me...

    OR
    clean and sober..
MS. Houston chose to continue to use, she chose to be drunk and loaded by drugs.

sorry for her family, her friends.. may she rest in peace , but for all eterny she is gone..
  • Leah Patric 2012/02/13 00:02:21
    Leah
She was trying to get clean and sober. Maybe she had a relapse. I don't know, though. I will wait for the autopsy to come back before jumping to conclusions.
  • Patric Leah 2012/02/13 10:28:47

    that is reasonable
