Music legend Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. She was forty-eight years old. Houston’s cause of death is still unknown, however, sources say that there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Houston’s accolades include two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, thirty Billboard Music Awards, and twenty-two American Music Awards. She was the first female artist to enter the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1 (with her second album, “Whitney,” in 1987) and the only artist to have seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits.

In addition to being one of the world’s best-selling artists, Houston influenced a variety of younger performers, such as Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, and Jennifer Hudson. Houston also pursued an acting career, performing in movies such as “The Bodyguard,” “Waiting to Exhale,” and “The Preacher’s Wife."

However, by the late nineties Houston’s illustrious career was often overshadowed by her struggles with drug abuse, which caused her to lose weight, frequently miss performances, and made her voice raspy and hoarse. However, in 2010, after multiple stints in rehab, Houston declared herself drug-free during an interview with Oprah Winfrey and the artist appeared to be making a comeback.

Houston’s death, on the eve of the Grammys, will certainly “cast a heavy pall on Sunday’s ceremony.” Plans are already underway to include a tribute to honor the singer.

What do you think about Whitney Houston’s death? Predictable or shocking?

It wasn't very surprising that she found dead. It was a tragic waste of talent.

I strongly believe that if she never got with Bobby Brown, that she would not have been hooked on anything. She was a strong person and a great person before they married.

I as everyone who loved Whitney and her music was in shock that her young life is over. While everyone knew that Whitney had problems with her abuse of drugs, I don't think anyone predicted that she would leave this world so soon. I had hoped that she would win her fight against drugs. I'm so sorry that wasn't the case, but now she's free from those demons. I hope her soul is at peace.

It is very sad since she did try to beat the habit, but when they had cut out her performance at the Michael Jackson Tribute a number of years ago because she looked so awful you new that she was in trouble.

It's always a shock when someone like this dies suddenly - especially after hearing they've been on the road to recovery/comeback... however it is not surprising, considering all the factors...

I feel bad for all families and people who face such sorrow due to people's addictions. I'm not surprised that Whitney's life came down to this. Unfortunately, I don't see how anything of positive inspiration came come out of it to help others.

With all the polution and secondhand smoke in the air, as well as the restaurants with sub-par standards and poor nutritional value, and many poor working conditions still around, and combined with many other things, it's amazing for someone to be 50 years or older these days and still be alive.

Predictable. The only shocking thing is that Lindey Lohan didn't precede her. Lindsey Lohan should have O.D.'d years ago. Not sure what is keeping her alive.

But,,Whitney Houston tempted fate way too many times. Add to that when people get older and continue to abuse drugs and alcohol, their bodies are already worn out and cannot take the abuse like they could when they were younger and their organs were in better shape. She just used up her body and it quit on her. 48 years old and her organs probably look like Lindsey Lohan's face, worn out.

I feel sorry for her family and daughter but they had to see this coming, her drug and alcohol abuse did'nt stop, just friday she was seen totally drunk in a club, mix that with the Xanax they found and you have a deadly cocktail. Its a shame she ever married Bobby Brown, he destroyed her life and career.

Yes indeed very sad, she was once one of the best singers in the whole world, and now she is dead, i feel so sorry for her daughter. I dont know if it is true, but here the news say dat Bobby is trying to get to her millions through his daughter, i hope her family prevents that.

Shocking yet predictable, after spending about 16 years with Bobby Brown & the drug addictions & rehab.. It was eventually going to catch up to her.
