its very close. i mean everyone will remember gene wilder for willy wonka more than johnny depp. but i felt depp played more of the bizarre, random character that was portrayed in the book than wilder did. the wilder version didnt exactly seem that bizarre. both were great, but i kinda lean more towards the remake. it was based more off the book.
As much as I like Johnny Depp, I did not like his Willy Wonka. I also didn't like the whole crap about him not being allowed candy as a child. The Gene Wilder version varied a bit from the original, but not nearly as much as the second.
I completely agree! All that stuff about his dad and candy was just stupid. And then he see his father later and he recognizes him by his "horrible teeth". I didn't see any horrible teeth. But the flashbacks and the burning singing dolls at the beginning really just shouldn't have been done.
NOBODY can compete with the original, let alone Tim Burton, the second worst director of his time. >_> It was foolish and audacious for him to even try.
I don't know, I can't choose. The remake was more like the book but after seeing the original it wasn't as much as I had expected. I like the original Charlie and his grandfather better. And the original had the awesome psychedelic boat trip.
By a very very wide margin. It was much more faithful to the book. Gene Wilder was just too creepy and was nothing like how Willy Wonka should be and those stupid little orange oompa loompas
I miised all the songs that weren't in the remake. Plus Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka scared the crap out of me as a child. I thought it was a horror movie.
I do enjoy watching the original, and it does have somethings that would've been good to add into the remake, like a villain similar to Slugworth which would make the factory shutting down make sense. I do enjoy Johnny Depps portrayal more just because he's more of a cynical sarcastic Wonka
The original hands down. Hollywood always think they're doing something spectacular when they put out the remakes, using big name stars. Big stars doesn't always guarantee a great remake.
There is enough conflict in the book, it seems to me, without injected the whole side story about a dentist father.
the old one rocks!
