It was a toss up between Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments. The latter is a little longish maybe. IDK. Ben Hur has great scenery, vibrant colors especially in the scene where Ben Hur, after regaining his freedom is on his way back to Judea and stops off in Sheik Ilderim's encampment in the desert what with those colorful tents and rugs, and the beautiful white Stallions, plus of course great action and even a little humor, mostly ironic humor I believe though. The Robe would be third and The Passion of The Christ fourth. I've seen King of Kings, but I can't recall anything from it nor The Bible. The other one I haven't seen.
ha! ha!...for me too...I have friends around the country who know what I'll be watching, when...The Ten Commandments! With Anne Baxter's character agitating Pharoah's ego!
All of these films move me and there are others, but "The Ten Commandments" is my all-time favorite of this genre (great all-[super]-star cast, great special-effects, great dialog, great EVERYTHING!).
"King of Kings" (with Jeffrey Hunter) is VERY moving -it made me cry- long before Mel Gibson's "PASSION" was ever conceived. So, King of Kings runs a close second, even though to this day it doesn't get the credit it deserves. If you've never watched it, I recommend it for viewing this Easter season.
What about you? What favorite films of yours from this category have I missed?
