Awards season continues with the announcement of the nominations for the 85th Academy Awards. Tons of great films have been recognized over a large number of categories, but the one that everyone is most interested in is the award for Best Picture.
This year, the nominated films include Steven Spielberg's historically epic "Lincoln" and Ang Lee's adaptation of the hit novel "Life of Pi," which lead the overall nominations with twelve and eleven apiece, respectively.

Tied for third place in the nods, with eight each, are two more Best Picture hopefuls: the epic adaptation of "Les Miserables," and "Silver Linings Playbook," whose two leads Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are also both up for awards.

Two smaller films, both also up for Best Picture, are making history. The youngest and oldest ever nominees for Best Actress, Quvenzhane Wallis (9) and Emmanuelle Riva (85) appear in "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Amour" respectively.
There are some controversial picks this year -- though for their content, not their quality. Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" has come under fire for its depiction of torture, and Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" has received similar criticism for glorifying violence. And last, but far from least, Ben Affleck's brilliant thriller "Argo." Who do you think should win Best Picture?

- Mike 2013/01/14 23:00:46"Lincoln"I will Say "Lincoln" best director...best actors...Sally Fields will get supporting actress Daniel Day Lewis probably will not get actor and that will go to Hugh Jackman just because he did more hype for the movie then Daniel Day Lewis did for his.....I was not impressed with the winners of Golden Globs...Jennifer Lawrence beat Maggie Smith..??..haha...now that's funny....I did think Christopher Waltz deserved the supporting actor award.....but Ben Affleck over Spielberg..??....Really..???.... think the awards have become so political now it's not really worth arguing about or even watching.....but that's my opinion...!reply

- tom Savage 2013/01/14 15:20:11"Les Miserables"It's a tough year to decide. We are really lucky to have so many great films to choose from. Argo, Les Miserables, and Lincoln - and not in that order - are my three favorites. All are great films and would be shoo ins without the other two.reply

- kick2head 2013/01/13 22:56:18"Les Miserables"I cannot recommend any of these, the only one I actually saw was Les Miserables. I have enjoyed many great musicals over the years but, this one wasn't one of them. The story and acting is great, but, the music was monotonous and seemed to be all sung at the same key, there were parts where I literally moaned out loud the music was so terrible. I prefered the non-musical version starring Liam Neeson.reply

- Rdtourist 2013/01/13 14:41:07"Les Miserables"Certainly NOT Lincoln, just a well done biopic of one event in his life, Life of Pi was weird, wonderful cinematography but otherwise, odd, Zero Dark Thirty was a special, just now coming into theaters this week, too late to form an opinion before January 1, 2013.reply
- misnomer58 2013/01/13 10:10:06"Life of Pi"+1To be honest, I have not seen any of these movies...yet. However, since I am quite aware of our great nation's history I find nothing entertaining about it. Life of Pi is first on my 'Must See' list.reply

- Bumblebeedle 2013/01/12 23:04:05"Les Miserables"+1Les Miserables was a stunning film with quality high definition (at one pount in the movie you could actually see the stitchings in a man's collar), amzing vocals, and it gave me a new perspectiv eof the French Revolution. I definitely think that les Miserables deserves the Oscar.reply
