It was kinda cool in the old days when they had the Big Four Tournament. Carolina/Duke is certainly the most intense rivalry in college hoops, if not all of sports. Improbable upsets, close proximity, and season-ending spoilers all contribute to the drama and history. Tops of that list is probably the game in 1974 when UNC overcame an 8 point Duke lead with 17 seconds left to send the game into overtime, where the Heels won by 4. All without the benefit of the three point shot.

Here's a joke regarding the two schools:

Coach K finally passed away after a long and glorious career. He is met by St Peter at the pearly gates and is shown his new house in heaven - a very nice craftsman bungalow with finely manicured lawn and some nice shade trees. He is very happy until he sees the huge mansion on the hill above. It is Carolina Blue with white pillars and is flying a large Tar Heel flag. Coach K is upset. "I had more championships than Dean Smith. Why is his house so much bigger than mine?" St Peter answers, "That's not Dean Smith's house, that's God's."

The state may be named North Carolina but this is DUKE COUNTRY!!

Loved it when UK knocked them out of the Tourney last year. Now with UNC being ranked #1 and UK at #2 this years game should be a great game, can't wait!

I know this man personally..He is from my hometown Poplar Bluff Missouri..But I have been a Tar Heel fans since Michael Jordon, James Worthy, Sam Perkins!
