147, on a 1964 BSA Lightening that I put together in my living room. It was on freshly laid blacktop on a warm dry day and it's still one of the dumbest things I've ever done.

120 mph back when I was young, dumb and racing. The racing was fun but wasn't using much in the way of protective gear at the time. I'm talking dark ages here.

I had the 67 GTO pegged at 140, the spedometer didn't go any higher.

Had a '75 Monte... fully-blown 454, balanced and blueprinted, bored 0.030 over, racing cam, semi-high-rise intake, dual Holley quads, headers, dual exhaust... and more...

I dragged down I-95 in New England in the wee hours... speedo maxes out at 120... the speedo pin was rapping and bouncing against the pin inside the meter... I would be willing to bet I was easily doing better than 150 mph...

    Adrenaline was raging in me...

She was a sleeper... the was little to show that she could move... someone observant would see the dual exhaust and the low-profile hood scoops... more obvious was the low rumble and to some, the rough idle...

I didn't put fat ties or custom wheels.. I didn't tub the rear wheel wells... I did beef up and stiffen the suspension a bit for handling...

141 MPH. 1957 Cadillac 4 door hard top. Twin 4 barrel holly carbs. high dome pistons, sodium filled valves and a full tank of gas (@26 cents per gallon!) Sigh.

About 250 Km per hour(about 155MPH?)in a Porsche along a narrow Country Road and scared the living daylites out of me!.Afterwards I had to struggle to get out and stand up.Never again,no thanks!.
Oh and all the time Beethovens 5th symphony and other tunes by a Classic Rock group called Ekseption was blasting out through the four loudspeakers of the cars CD Player, which made talking impossible, tho I was glad the driver had no other distractions!.

120, but that's as high as my speedometer went. Had a crazy woman try to run me into a bridge back in the 70s in S.C. but I got by and outran her. Had someone in a cadi who saw it doing the same right beside me. No cell phones then...

Worst case of it I've ever seen. Scared the hell out of me and everyone around. She was about 2' from my bumper at 90 when I passed the cadi so I floored it and he did too. She looked pretty psycho in my rear view mirror.

So true. My dad taught driver's ed when I was a kid and he told me this when he taught me to drive. It was cool because he had the car with brakes, clutch and gas on both sides so I learned to drive, parallel park and do 3 point turns, sitting on a stack of encyclopedias before 1st grade. :) I've never driven through S.C. again.

I've driven through S.C. plenty of times and had no problem...try Nebraska with some of the yahoos here and their trucks...they just as soon run you over...had plenty of encounters and nuts I'v edealt with. And when I'm out teaching my kiods to drive that's the first and most important lesson...watch out for the idiots and crazies...

Actually I have been through SC now that I think about it but not through Spartanburg, where it happened. My dad told to always figure that every driver on the road except me is crazy and I'll be okay. Good advice.

I brought the thing home in milk crates, the guy told me it had high performance this and that, but I didn't believe him until that day. Slowing down from that speed on a bike is way scarier than getting there!

They didn't make them that big back then, except for Harley Davidson. The Lightening was a 650. It was so light in weight that at that speed it didn't feel like I was touching the road!

Limits in some areas are due soon to increase again...

Roads like this in TX, if it were in MA where I was originally hatched and raised, the speed limit would be 40... My folks and family are shocked at the posted speed limit, and when they ask if that's how fast we drive on it, I tell them no... that we actually drive between 70 and 80 on it...
