In honor of Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi feature "Prometheus," CelebTV has put together some of the best and worst sci-fi movies of all time. Some of the movies, like "Terminator 2," are indisputable classics. Others, like "Plan 9 From Outer Space," are so terrible they're great. Check out the clip below for some truly awful and amazing flicks.

There's plenty of bad sci-fi out there, but when it comes to good sci-fi, your options are limited. You could go with an obvious choice, like the original "Star Wars" trilogy or Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" classic; or you could go with something a little more subtle, like Scott's cult favorite "Blade Runner" or "2001: A Space Odyssey." If you don't see your favorite, feel free to write it in. The choice for best sci-fi movie is yours to make!

I'm a SciFi movie addict. I think I've watched every SciFi movie ever made in the English Language or with English subtitles. In my not so humble opinion, the best SciFi movie of all time is . . .

Forbidden Planet

This movie has everything:

Writing - a script lifted from William Shakespeare's "The Tempest."

Acting - An all star cast.

Sets - are simply beautiful! Real mat paintings!

Special Effects - Even by today's standards they are pretty good.

Direction and production are tight, this movie hangs together.

Music - is some of the first experimental electronic synthesizer stuff,

Me too..."Forbidden Planet" is one of my favorites. It appeared when I had just matured from late puberty....ended up having the hots for Ann Francis.

I understand your sentiment but as a story - esp the Hitler type parallel in the story how a Republic can be seized and the useful idiots - that can be - involved in such a takeover is lost if you do not view the whole six episodes. :ole the Matrix. if you do not watch all movies it just does not make any sense.

Although The Matrix and 2001: A Space Odyssey are good movies, the best would have to be Star Trek, The Wrath of Kahn, because it is good, and also because of Shatners acting, especially the scene when Kahn takes the Genesis device.

Jurassic Park is the very first CGI movie that came out on June 11, 1993 I was only a year old when I saw it. I'm a huge Jurassic Park fan and it's my all time favorite :)

At the time the movie was produced, the largest computer company was International Business Machines, or IBM. If you raise the letters in HAL by one letter in the alphabet, guess what you get.... H=I, A= B, L=M. That was intentional.

I used to live near the corporate offices of IBM in New York State and they approved it. It seems back then that IBM corporate had a sardonic sense of humor.

I am puzzled at the absence of "The Day The Earth Stood Still. Both "Day" and "2001" are thought-provoking. Years after seeing them, I still think about them. And what about ET?
