What's the Best Sci-Fi Movie of All Time?

In honor of Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi feature "Prometheus," CelebTV has put together some of the best and worst sci-fi movies of all time. Some of the movies, like "Terminator 2," are indisputable classics. Others, like "Plan 9 From Outer Space," are so terrible they're great. Check out the clip below for some truly awful and amazing flicks.

There's plenty of bad sci-fi out there, but when it comes to good sci-fi, your options are limited. You could go with an obvious choice, like the original "Star Wars" trilogy or Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" classic; or you could go with something a little more subtle, like Scott's cult favorite "Blade Runner" or "2001: A Space Odyssey." If you don't see your favorite, feel free to write it in. The choice for best sci-fi movie is yours to make!

terminator 2

Metropolis filmed in 1929 was truly decades ahead of it's time and set a standard that for the entire genre.

A good movie. When I first saw it, I was so amazed, I kept repeating "1929" to myself.

I was severely obsessed with this movie (and the books) in 3rd grade. I would fall asleep listening to the soundtrack on my itty bitty purple Walkman. Also, I ran around the house locking ALL the doors after seeing it the first time. I'm still teased for that one.

    Jurassic Park funny

.......I was tempted to pick "Plane 9 From Outer Space".

It was so bad even for that era, it has become a legend.

Why in the hell wasn't Star Trek listed?

War of the worlds, hands down. No, not the one with Tom Cruise. The original was so frightening, that it had an entire country in panic mode, and may have been the quintessential beginning of the UFO craze. Spawned from the radio show of the same, this movie had a creepy frightening factor that utterly changed the idea of extra terrestrials...Now, understandably, today's crowd would find it wanting, but one must keep in mind the sentiment and naïveté of the nation....Just a thought...

That is a classic too. The later famed James Arness (Marshall Matt Dillon) in the longest TV series ever (20 years), "Gunsmoke," played the part of the Thing

I don't know if you can call it Sci-Fi, but I would vote for Krull. If not, then I have to go with Flash Gordon. After those (since they came first for me as a thinking movie goer) I default to Star Wars since I fell in love with Sci-Fi when I saw it at the tender age of 3 (ESB, btw, and my uncle rented SWTLH immediately there after to catch me up!)

The quintessential monster movie. Absolutely terrifying when seen in the theatre. It played on so many fears. Years later, I would sometimes imagine I saw the Alien waiting in the shadows, ready to spring.
The second film was a great action movie, and I reveal my shallow side when I say: Michael Biehn as Cpl. Hicks: drool, drool!
The last two movies in the Alien series are pure, unadulterated crap and I consider them to be nothing but Ripley's nightmares during hypersleep. Corporal Hicks

I enjoyed The Terminator, but there were some plot holes that kind of made it seem silly.
Star Wars is the ultimate space opera. Curse George Lucas for going back in and tweaking the original. You don't mess with a masterpiece!

I consider Alien and Aliens one movie. I spliced the two together where her and her cat are being rescued out of hypersleep and They fit well on a double sized disc and that is the way I watch the movie not even having to swap discs.
