What's the Best Sci-Fi Movie of All Time?

In honor of Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi feature "Prometheus," CelebTV has put together some of the best and worst sci-fi movies of all time. Some of the movies, like "Terminator 2," are indisputable classics. Others, like "Plan 9 From Outer Space," are so terrible they're great. Check out the clip below for some truly awful and amazing flicks.

There's plenty of bad sci-fi out there, but when it comes to good sci-fi, your options are limited. You could go with an obvious choice, like the original "Star Wars" trilogy or Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" classic; or you could go with something a little more subtle, like Scott's cult favorite "Blade Runner" or "2001: A Space Odyssey." If you don't see your favorite, feel free to write it in. The choice for best sci-fi movie is yours to make!

Before one chooses on this poll, I think they should actually see all these flicks. I doubt if all posters have seen "2001 Space Odyssey" It was awesome, not frightening, but thought provoking and the music was magical. Plus Hal actually is alive and well here in the US! LOL

There are too many excellent and classic sci-fi movies that have been produced. All of the above, except definitely for Avatar... and I am not familiar yet with "Plan 9 from Outer Space.... doesn't sound like a winner, but I could be wrong.) ) make the top 100 along with many more.

I cannot choose ... so I'll just mention one powerful sci-fi classic that seems to have been forgotten...the 1936 film, "Things to Come" produced by Alexander Korda and written by (who else) H.G. Wells.

Original " The Day the Earth Stood Still".....a classic..instead of the Aliens wanting to eat us, take over our minds or rape the Planet they tried to reason with us not to destroy ourselves and the rest of the Universe.....also When Worlds Collide the 50's was the birth of the Sci-Fi Generation.

    You stole my steam.

It was "The Day the Earth Stood Still" that gave modern sci-fi movies their legitimacy. It's a little corny today, but still has its impact. I had nightmares until I was able to memorize ""Klaatu barada nikto."

Do you remember how the rocket was launched in "When Worlds Collide?" Well, they are actually considering doing it that way now, more than 60 years later.... and now, of course we search deep space for asteroids heading our way while Andromeda and we are going to collide down the road.

Sorry about stealing your steam.......yes that was an interesting way to launch the ship....biggest problem that in reality we are no where near being that far out in the Universe as those fantastic movies portrayed so many years ago what a real pity that we put the brakes on after Apollo.

Nothing beats Luke, the wisdom in this movie is revolutionary, but it has still found its "Acceptable" place in human nature, it will.

The Fifth Element my second favourite.
Alien, Blade Runner, Terminator then A space Odyssey.

Prometheus is the next big step, watch it.

What about Terminator 3? They brought that movie into hardcore action and end of the world scene. Human vs robot to the death.

Or else, "Attack of the Giant Tomatoes"

In a related genre of animation-fantasy, there's "Bambi meets Godzilla."

But surely the Godzilla movies deserve honorable mention.

But my favorite is obscure, THX-1138, done by Lucas before Star Wars:
