With all the controversy over Skins US, I was wondering about the popularity and success of other TV shows that were also quite controversial at times. I'm also watching Nip/Tuck right now. ;) What is your favourite, and does controversy ever make the show more appealing to you?

:\
I've heard controversy surrounding Queer as Folk from, obviously, people who don't want to see that much gay sex scenes on TV but also from people who don't think it stereotypes gay people and don't like how it shows them clubbing and having casual sex so much.
Nip/Tuck has had a few scenes that were quite controversial. I recall hearing the term "incestuous necrophilia" used to describe one episode...
These things were all made into a big deal in the States... and frankly, watching the shows, there's little controversial about them. Skins shows the reality of things, and reality isn't always pretty. Queer as Folk shows a huge part of the queer community, but it never claims it's the only part, not to mention that North American version branched out into other parts of the community.I've never seen Nip/Tuck, but from what I've heard it's no more controversial than any other show on the telly.
I don't have a problem with Queer as Folk, I'm just saying that it is controversial for some (or was). In the UK version the younger boy is only 15 as well. I actually haven't watched the UK version so I don't even know about the rest of it...
Nip/Tuck is only really controversial a few times. There was a scene with a woman attempting to give herself a mastectomy, which a lot of people would think is going too far for TV. I think there may have been complaints about a foursome or something but I've only seen a couple of seasons of Nip/Tuck so I don't know...
Yes, he was 15 in the UK version, but even that didn't cause that much of a fuss. Why? Because things like that happen. It's reality. Americans don't seem to understand that concept (which is part of the reason they made him older in the North American adaption).
They only people I've heard complain about these shows are Americans. It's because they're afraid of reality. That's the only reason any of these shows might be considered "controversial," because they portray very real things.
I thought they made him older just so he'd be a year under the legal age in both? I haven't seen that written anywhere or anything, but that's what I assumed.
Nip/Tuck can hardly be called realistic actually, but okay. I do understand what you mean but that doesn't mean the shows just aren't controversial. Since this website does seem to have a lot more Americans I did make the options I put up seem a bit more American or controversial in America. Which is why I also put up the option to choose anothing show or film that could be controversial. I don't know about Big Brother in the US at all, except I'm sure it's been in the US sometime, but there was a bit of a racism row with it in the UK a couple of years ago. :S
EVERYTHING THAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG, DID.
I know a few people who've been on Degrassi... and met a few of the lead actors.
Man, I'm shocked by how well it does in the States... only "tweens" watch it here. :|
WHEN JT DIED, I LITERALLY BAWLED. SAD DAY.
