Jodie Foster’s speech at the Golden Globes will definitely be the talk of the entertainment world this week.

Accepting the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement, she not only came out — as a single woman — but intimated that she was retiring from acting when she said she would not be returning to this stage or any stage. “It’s just that from now on, I may be holding a different talking stick,” Foster said, bringing many in the audience to tears. Backstage, Foster clarified to reporters that she was not retiring from acting.

In her stream-of-conscious though clearly rehearsed speech, Foster first shocked the audience by leading them to think that she was about to make a huge public statement about her sexuality. Instead, she said she was single, adding “I already did my coming out in the stone age.”

    None of these:

Bill Clinton tainted the whole 2013 Golden Globes by showing his face, and trying to keep Clinton’s, himself and that Haggard wife in the lime-light for her run for president in 2016.

Who can compete with the divine Ms Foster? Funny, beautiful and self-deprecating. It was the only bit I really watched.

Making fun of their clothes and pompous party they throw for themselves. Then when that got boring I shut it off.

Didn't watch it, do not watch the Oscars either, why would I waste my time looking at a bunch of over paid left-wing loons who just run their mouths about, the Constitution being no good, America being no good, gun rights no good but they sure love the money, the freedom and the armed guards they can afford to have!

Not watching it. I never watch any of the awards and I find them useless. All they are doing is wasting money to pat each other on the back for making some film.

Not so much the "I beat Meryl" comment, but her speech afterwards was funny and so down-to-earth.

I saw both the movie of Lincoln and Argo. I enjoyed both. However, I did not watch the Globes, because it is really just for the entertainers to enjoy each other and receive accolades for their work. If I happened to be a movie buff, i would probably watch the
Globe, Oscars, et al, but I am not a movie buff

  • regina.... Catita 2013/01/14 18:53:00
My favorite is The Good Wife, however, now that PBS has Masterpiece Theatre's DONTOWN
ABBEY showing, I am bypassing The Good Wife until I have seen all of the Masterpiece
Theatre's show. It hate it when I like to watch so few TV shows and those I like are shown
at the same time. It's seldom that I am made to choose between two shows that I enjoy.
