What Was Your Favorite Blockbuster of 2012?

It's been an exciting year for blockbuster movies, but which one was your favorite? Superhero movies dominated the field once again, with two of the year's biggest hits being Joss Whedon's "The Avengers," which brought our favorite Marvel heroes together for one epic adventure, and "The Dark Knight Rises," which concluded Christopher Nolan's beloved Batman trilogy.

The Dark Knight Rises

It was also a year that saw a huge franchise come to an end with "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two," and another begin with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." And, of course, a classic series continued -- and reached new highs -- with "Skyfall," the latest outing for British super spy James Bond.

It was also a great year for people who like sci-fi movies with big action and big ideas, thanks to Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel "Prometheus" and Rian Johnson's ultra-slick time-travel thrill ride "Looper." Which was your favorite blockbuster of 2012?

"The Avengers" was awesome. The movies leading up to it were good, but this topped them all. Between hilarious lines, unforgettable characters (COULSON!!!), and Hulk Smash, it is a must-see. Batman was decent, but the first two were better. Spiderman would have been better if it hadn't been a stupid origin story. Get more creative! Twilight is an insult to vampires, and doesn't deserve to be on the list.

I'm surprised The Hunger Games wasn't on this list.

Also, since one of the defining characteristics of a blockbuster movie is that it makes a lot of money, here's the top 10 worldwide grossing movies of 2012:

    1 The Avengers
    2 The Dark Knight Rises
    3 Skyfall
    4 Ice Age: Continental Drift
5 The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2
    6 The Amazing Spider-Man
    7 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
8 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
    9 The Hunger Games
    10 Men in Black 3

#4, 7, 9, and 10 are not on this list.

The Avengers sucked, and The Dark Knight Rises might have been even worse. I can't believe people even voted for Prometheus, The Amazing Spiderman, and Looper, because those were all terrible. And Twilight? Just... no.

The Hobbit managed to hold itself together and Skyfall was decent though it lacked in terms of plot. I can't really choose between the two.

I saw all of these films except Looper and Twilight. So I cannot say anything about that. But I will give my views on the rest.

The Amazing Spiderman - Good fun, i'm not a fan of Spiderman but it was a good flick. Rhys Ifans made for a great villain. Not the best, but by far the worst of the year.

Prometheus - The most disappointing film I've ever seen. I went in expecting greatness, I came out with a film that lacked in substance. Most of the acting was strong, but the script sucked and had too many plotholes. I was angry when I came out of it. Shame.

Skyfall - I hate Bond. Enough said.

The Hobbit - It's too long and bloated. Which tends to happen when you make a short book into 3 long films. The film is tedious, and at times hideously boring. That said the performances of Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman were splendid.

The Dark Knight Rises - Great film. But let's face it, if an atomic bomb goes off that close to land... it will kill you. It'd kill Batman, and the entire city of Gotham. A stupid was to end a great series. Solid film though.

The Avengers - Harry Dean Stanton. This is all I need to say.

In reality my two films of the year are Life Of Pi, and The Cabin In The Woods.

I haven't seen one of these movies...absolutely no interest in Hollywood 'famous' movies...I used to go and see the new Hollywood movies but they always turned out to be terrible and always the same storyline...
like dance movies are; a girl and a boy who both like dancing but for some reason they can't dance together..and they like each other but they can't do anything about that either for some reason...then they end up dancing together, kiss and everyone lives happily ever after.
Romantic movies; Basically the same as dance movies just without the dance.
Action movies; bad guy vs good guy; good guy wins and usually ends up with a girl..
I could go on but I don't think it's necessary.

Why is The Hunger Games not on the list? It grossed almost 690 million $, quite a lot more than a couple of movies listed here, and it was certainly popular and well-received/reviewed.

i read the book series with my son. Sorely Disappointed ...found it very predictable...i wont ruin the ending for the next two movies coming out though. In this case...the movie is much better than the book.....so wait for the next two installments in the series. i liked the North/South Connotations...especially since it is featuring an alternative history scenario and the setting is applachian mountains.

I also LOVED Djano Unchained. Christopher Waltz was perfection. Why isn't that an option?
