Great athlete for us. He qualified with less than his own record this week... but he is the fastest anyway. I guess he'll get lots of metal this time also. I don't recall seeing any of the other moments. I must have been working.

I remember seeing this video. I think he pulled a hamstring/groin and couldn't finish the race on his own. His father ran onto the track and supported his son, running with him the rest of the way. It was a beautiful moment I will never forget.

That is what the Olympics is all about. Second (for me) would be Michelle Kwan's long program in the 98 Winter Games.

If you haven't seen Derek Redmond's finish, go look it up on YouTube. Hard to put any single moment above that one... true competitive spirit, true love for a child.

On August 16, 2008, one man changed the sport of short distance race not only in one country, but throughout the entire world.

That man was Usain Bolt of Jamaica, who shocked the world with his lightning speed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His 100 meter time of 9.69 seconds shattered the previous Olympic record held by Donovan Bailey, who set the record in the 1996 games at 9.84 seconds.

My favorite moment was when Miachel Phelps won his 7th gold of the 08 olympics in the 100m breast stroke after coming from behind and winning by 1/100th of a second.

Purpose takes a very close second. When you saw her ankle after the landing you wondered how she was able to run fast enough to do any vault let alone what she ended up doing !

First, if I ever hear anyone refer to the last decade as the "naughties" again, I will kick a sad grandpa in his brittle shins. Second, this was the greatest Olympic moment of the era you mentioned:
