Actually Squaw Valley was 1960, but the US victories over the Soviets (the last time until 1980) and the heavily favored Canadians was certainly a proud moment in US olympic history!

Thanks for correcting me. I will never forget our college kids beating the Russian pros.

I believe it was 1960....and later in 1980.... 1960 was particularly poignant because our athletes were "amateurs" whereas the Russians athletes were all professionals. And since it was during the Cold War...it made it even better!!

Miracle on ice. I still get chills when I see reruns of the games. There was an electric excitement that existed in those hokey games that very rarely happens in sports.

I had a part time job as a waitress in a bar when the US won. The place exploded in cheers and everyone was jumping up and down and hugging each other. I made more in tips that day than ever before!

There were so many great moments in Olympic history then, I would not know where to start or finish but Ali winning was a great moment. In those days boxing was incredible.

No offense to the other moments, but, this was awesome. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when it happened.

US takes gold in ice hockey in 1960. The 1960 US win was even more spectacular than 1980. It just hasn't had the same hype.
