For those who weren't around during the glorious summer of 1982, it might seem like a random, inconsequential date. But as Yahoo! pointed out in a recent slideshow, 1982 was a summer of classics. Fifteen cinematic beasts turn 30 this summer, and each one has stood the test of time. Some of them -- "Conan the Barbarian," "The Thing," "TRON" -- have recently been the subjects of remakes. But let's not dwell on the negative.

From Cameron Crowe's screenwriting breakthrough, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," to Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning masterpiece, "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," the summer of 1982 was a great time to be alive. In addition to the films listed below, Yahoo!'s slideshow includes "The Road Warrior," "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," "The Secret of Nimh," "The World According to Garp," "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Night Shift," and "Pink Floyd -- The Wall." All of them have aged extremely well.

Of course, if you think "Grease 2" or "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl" are more deserving of the title, feel free to write one of those in, too! You can see a full list of 1982 releases here. Yahoo! kept its selection to movies released between May and August, but we won't tell anyone if you bend it a bit. What do you think is the best movie classic from the summer of 1982?

I like E.T. because of the child Drew Barrymore and the teenage Erika Eleniak.

They were all classics, but "They're here" from Poltergeist had the most affect. Never looked at tv "snow" the same after that.

TRON hasn't had a remake, it's a sequel. It's a great movie, my dad bought it and showed it to me and I loved it. It's an amazing movie.

Conan the Barbarian was an amazing movie. Schwarzenegger was in his prime at the time(though I'd say Total Recall was his best movie). I wish I could see The Poltergeist, though, because I hear a lot of rave about it.

Best Movie of 1982 Best movie of 1982 This was the top money maker. But many near and dear flicks were released in 1982. Prodding my memory at IMDB, I see many of the films that made me a celluloid addict: Sophie's Choice, Shoot the Moon, Personal Best, Eating Raoul, The Atomic Cafe, An Officer and a Gentleman... and so many. Why did you not include the highly awarded Sophie's Choice? They made many good movies that year.

Woah, woah, woah. Why does The Thing have the least amount of votes? That movie is perfect and Kurt Russel is the man.

E.T. Not the same kind of movies but with those actors i couldnt only choose E.T. , i add 'l'as des as' with Belmondo , 'le gendarme et les gendarmettes' with Louis de Funès and 'Le père noël est une ordure'. You probably dont know them but they are movies i could watch a lot of time as i already did haha
